My opal half-moon betta rescue.

I've never done this before, so kind of flying by the seat of my pants here. Rescuing a betta that is.

I have a "friend" that has had this betta for a while now. I think he was an impulse buy. Anyway, she did not have the best set up. (bowl...) boo He got some severe fin damage. I believe from his tank decor. She thought it was fin rot and tried to treat him with Fungus Clear. Fast forward several weeks, she's now moving and doesn't want to mess with the fish. She has been hinting around that he'd be happier with me for the last couple of weeks. I took the hint Friday and offered to take him. I picked him up today. Now my quarantine is a hospital tank. This tank is completely cycled and running for quite some time. I originally seeded with filter medium from one of my other tanks. Any rescued betta advice?

Have you ever had a betta before? I’d treat him with some more fungus medicine just in case. (He’s lovely btw!)

Platinum bettas are so beautiful! Overtime they will gain some more coloring either red, blue ,yellow , or black it all depends on his genes. I would move him to a cycled 10gal, big enough for his long fins. You want to make sure you are doing small extra water changes, daily is best but everyother day works too. You want to prevent anymore fin rotting at this point. Fin rot is mainly caused by poor water quailty, makes sense considering he was living in a bowl I would also add some tannin tea extracted from either indian almond leaves, rooibos tea (my fav), seed pods, alder cones, magnolia pods , birch or oak leaves, etc . Alot of botanicals can be found online at Tanninaquaitcs. Bettas natural habitats are blackwater so adding some tannin will definitely help with any stress and tannin also contains antibacterial properties that helps with fin regrowth

Hey, tannins (Indian almond leaves), tourmaline balls(amazon), aquarium salt for a maximum of 2 weeks and stress guard by Seachem all together is great to heal a lot of stuff. All or some of this benefits him, or the waters conditions in different ways, you can look up all these products and their benefits on google.

Adding live plants is also nice. He'll like to go on it and it will detoxify your water and oxygenate it for most plants.

Have a good night

Yes, I have kept bettas before. He’s been through three doses of Jungle Fungus Clear prior to me picking him up today. Do you think he needs more?

The only thing I’ve added is aquarium salt. Heading to my LFS tomorrow for more supplies.

I wouldn't add any more medicine. I'd just give him some TDL for a week or two then re-evaluate. Maybe a bit of almond leaves...

The only real concern i have is from the picture it looks like his front area above his head isn't in great condition....

Yeah.. it almost looks as if the scales are gone? It’s hard to tell what exactly it is. A closer pic of the head might help.

Nope, sounds like you’re doing wonderfully! Maybe some almond leaves but other than that I agree he just needs to be watched for a week or so. Oh and he needs kissy faces, every betta I’ve known is intrigued by kissy faces

No missing scales. He actually looks like he’s changing color. I was told he was solid white when she bought him.

I got some IAL leaves today. When I got home, he already seems perkier. I can’t wait to see what a couple of days with the IAL will bring!
