Well, I've just acquired a new betta fish.
They gave them as prizes in a Go Fish tournament, and I decided that I would save at least one if it was the last thing I did. Fortunately, they split us into groups of three or four and each group's first winner of three games won a fish. I was in a group with my two best friends so I was going to get a fish either way. They were all veil tail mutts, of course, from the most reliable pet store in the area. I picked out a lighter blue one, who my friends named "Ace" since I won him at cards. He came with "everything you need" - a bowl with gravel, half a jar of food, and a note stating that water should be changed two to three times a month.
Two to three times a WHAT!!!??? I have never had my bettas in such a small container, and when I had them in jars three times the size of that bowl, I did water changes every two days at the MOST! Well, at least they mentioned using bottled water rather than tap water. I use dechlor, but bottled is better than plain tap. I gave orders to the one guy I knew who won one; tossed out the instructions, moved my cory and my remaining guppy (Saybrienne got stuck under a rock and died :-[ ) into the shared 10g... and moved Ace into the 5g. Ah, running out of space. Baby guppies are going to have to rely on hiding in the bushes, unfortunately, because I am completely out of spare tanks. But on the bright side, Ace is happy and healthyin his new home!
