She likes to climb on your hand:) her head is really cool too, she can turn it around 90 degrees and look at you.

My dad and I were just talking about them today and how I haven't seen one in years! :)

What kind of enclosure do you keep her in? Does she have any special requirements (heat/light, diet)? She's really cool though!

    did you hatch her urself?

I feed her small crickets and fruit flies. She doesn't have any heat requirements she just can't be too hot or too cold. She is in a small mesh butterfly cage. ImageUploadedByFish Lore Aquarium Fish Forum1407291913.534579.jpg

She also needs a cotton ball misted with water and kept moist. She also needs sticks to climb on.

No I didn't hatch her but she is 6-7 weeks old. She is still a nymph at the moment and is just starting to molt today. Once she molts about 6 more times she will be an adult and will have wings.

I got her at my LFS. You can also order them online. Just search Carolina mantis for sale and a bunch of sites pop up.

I grew up on a small mountain so seeing Praying Mantis was very common. I myself have a passion for Praying Mantis as well as Praying Mantis Kung FU.

When I was young I would go out in the field and catch one every year and keep it in the house in A shoebox with a screen cover, as a pet . I am now 68 so it was a long time ago. To feed our yearly guest I would take a toothpick and put a blob of Calo canned cat food rolled around it like a shish-kabob pick her up in one hand and wave it in front of her and she would grab the toothpick in her front claws while I still held the end and eat it like an ear of corn. They always lived out their normal lifespan so maybe the higher protein of the cat food helped. I still love them but I don't see many down here in Fla. .. Alison.....Enjoy your new pet
