I found this little guy surrounded by the king bettas they have in Petco they are very mean looking to me ,,This guy was in the back I thought the cup was empty ..So I took him and put him in my carriage..got some brine shrimp and we went home. I think he is a double tail.. and he is very small.. The female bettas bodies were bigger than his.He is very skinny , maybe he was not fed or something is wrong ..He is in a 1gal container for now..for QT.I have no name for him yet.

I don't think he's a DT. V has that same partial split in his tail, Fried Bettas thought it was maybe damage that occurred as a juvie and healed around it. But he also had a little CT ray between the split so maybe it's different. But I'm pretty sure DTs have tails in 2 very distinct lobes. If you can get a photo of him in full flare, I bet she could take a look.

I love the way he looks. Kind of eerie, like an x-ray of a betta but not an actual betta haha. I would name him "Nuke" or "Spook" haha. Get it? x-ray = radiation = nuclear = nuke haha. And, well, Spook is obviously.

Is he bloated? Or is this a normal betta tummy? I ask because this is how V's tummy kind of looks. And has for awhile. But he shows NO symptoms of bloating, crazy appetite and energy level. And looking at photos of healthy bettas I'm not sure it isn't normal after all, sometimes they do just seem to have kind of big bellies.

This guy has such a cool look to him, really eerie and unique. Name?

Oh my gosh you can see his veins and musculature and everything. Crazy! He's more translucent than my Lola.

Here is the best I can do for his tail. He is so translucent it is hard to get a good picture. Well I got a couple of names Hippocampus, Illuminati, Legolas (like this one better) or Casper..lol

Oh I like Illuminati. I LOVE that name.

Though Legolas is pretty hilarious. But I'm not much of a LOTR fan, especially Legolas. I think the books are long-winded and the movies are over-done. Like "Oh, we have Orlando Bloom, let's shove him down your throat." Haha.

But I love the name Illuminati. I really really do

I'm not sure about the DT. All the photos I've looked at they basically have two tails. But when buying from a petstore, you just never know because the fish is usually there because they don't meet specific standards. But it's no matter, he's awesome.

I think he is a double tail. Even though it is hard to tell with the cellophane fins in the picture, the extremely broad and developed dorsal fin is a good indicator of a DT.

I would recommend getting some bloodworms or blackworms, live or frozen, and feeding them to him one meal a day, with another meal of pellets until he gets to a normal size. Nothing is better than worms to grow or put weight on a betta. After that I wouldn't feed the fattening worms more than once a week.

He's a very beautiful little boy! And I love the name Legolas if you go with that (but then I am a LOTR nerd!)

Well, he had a small piece of blood worm and explored his 3 gallon jar and now he is hanging by the heater ..Now this one he can not see his reflection like my other betta that is building his nest by . He is just hanging on top . What is it with the guys I pick and their love of heat...lol

V was on the heater last night. Totally unlike him and really scared me. I am pretty sure they can get burned. I irritated him until he got off of it and he skulked off to his log haha.

Yes he is a DT. The dorsal fin gives it away. Only a DT has a dorsal that looks squarish.

I didn't notice the wisteria! When it's grown some, try floating it. V loves his floating. He rearranges it, blows tiny bubble nests around the leaves and now sleeps in it every single night.

I got some Wisteria in Oro's tank too but the light is brighter in Illuminati's jar so plants grow faster I have to get differnt bulbs for his tank..

At Elmer's they have these little LED lights that are kind of like those bendy desk lights. You could clip it on the jar and it would light both jars that are side by side. LED not the best growing light but for anacharis, wisteria and the moss ball it'll do. Not sure about java...that's low light right? I have a junky, cheap bulb on V's tank and somehow the wisteria is growing like a weed, it's 50% larger than it was a week ago. And everything in the goldie tank is growing under the LED lights with no problem too (anacharis, water sprite, amazon sword and a couple anubias). So I don't think they need much special. All I do is dose with Flourish once a week and they are happy.

Java ferns have very low light requirements so it would do fine with a cheaper light. The hairgrass is the only thing that isn't ideal in a low light setup. It will get tall and lanky instead of staying as a compact groundcover.
