My new guy (or gal)!

I finally convinced my sister to let me have the baby betta she purchased on a whI'm a few months ago!

She didn't do any research prior to getting it, and then upon bringing it home decided it was better to listen to the advice of LPS employees rather than her fish-geek of a sister. This poor fish ended up in a tiny vase with no filter or heater (or really anything).

Around the time this was going on I was rescuing two bettas that were kept in a little divided 2.5 gallon. I ended up upgrading them to a 10 gallon, so I gave the 2.5 to my sister. I even made her a nice little sponge filter

Well today (months later) when I saw the aquarium, I noticed that it looked really dirty. I asked her when the last time she cleaned the tank was, and of course she said she had never cleaned it. I told her I'd be happy to take the betta off her hands and get the tank all cleaned up; apparently she was sick of taking care of it anyways, so she handed him over.

Before getting him all set up I thought I'd test the water- .25ppm ammonia, 0 nitrite, 20-30 nitrate. At least the filter was working

I'm having trouble adding photos- I'll try again in another post Betta's getting all settled in and is definitely enjoying his clean water!

PS- did I mention the reason my sister got the betta in the first place? She was shopping with a friend and they decided they would both get bettas and see whose lived the longest. *facepalm*

I guess it will only let me attach them as thumbnails. I'll try to fix it later, but for now you'll just have to squint!

The first two are the betta, the last one is its tank

Thanks guys! Now I've just got to figure out a name for he/she so I can add a picture/name to my signature!

Those colours are gorgeous!

He's a little cutie alright! When I was getting him set up he looked orangish/red- like a peach color. I've always wanted a betta that color, so I hope he stays that way! (I probably won't have any such luck, though, as he was probably stressed and it looks like he's going to marble anyways!)

Better pictures coming tomorrow!

Thanks guys!

I know the pictures aren't that great, but any guesses as to whether it's a male or female? Or possible fin type? I really want to name it, but I can't do that until I know the gender!

She's a little girl and I would say a veiltail

I think female also. The caudal fin doesn't appear to be getting longer or growing.

I think she could be a veil tail also just judging on her analfin.
However could be a delta as she looks like my delta also.

I upgraded her(?) to a 6 gallon bookshelf last week- her coloration seems to indicate that she's pretty happy!

I'm pretty impressed with her colors as well- I must be doing something right!

The tank still looks pretty bare since it only has the one plant and piece of driftwood from her previous one gallon. I'm hoping to get some more plants/driftwood this weekend (though I said that last week as well...)
