My new Cory+ planted tank

Hello everyone!

Finally finished with my new cory tank. I have spent months (seems like a year) getting this done. Sadly, we lost one ember tetra to the transition (I think she was completely stressed with the shenanigans of the move). So I only have 5 of those left. Seems like no matter what I do I always end up with 6-9 embers. I will restock to 15 and see what happens. Funny note - the tetras have learned to follow my panda corys around to gulp up any food they stir up.

My plants are all recovering from the transition. I bleach dipped them all b/c I had pest snails and BBA in my other tank that I wanted to make sure didn't transfer over. Lots of caves and hiding places!

In the tank are:

Panda Corys - 7 adults, 3 juveniles, a baby and a wiggler (just saw these they must of come over on the plants even after the bleach dip - I found one egg when I was rinsing the bacopa and it hatched in my nursery, so we are assuming on the other two).

Oto cats - 5

Amano shrimp - 5

Ember tetras - 5 (soon to be 15)

Also, still in other tank - 1 assassin snail and 3 (at least) baby panda corys.

Question - I think I want to get some horned nerite snails. What is the opinion on keeping these with my assassin? I have heard mixed results. I have only one assassin. Thanks in advance for any input.

Here are some pics. It is still a little rough. Also thinking of getting some dwarf hair grass for the front, but I think I will wait and see what the moss does. Also, you cant see them yet, but there are two tiger lotus in the rock formations offset within the monte carlo. I am hoping they come in beautifully.

Imagine most the roughness will sort itself out once the plants really start growing in! What size tank is this? For curiosity :)

It is a 50 gal tank. 48x18x14. We bought an old 110 gal for really cheap and cut it down to a height appropriate for the corys. It has been a journey. Next time I will just buy the glass outright. Probably cost the same when you consider ALL the labor! HAHA

Yeah, we thought about that, but I really just wanted to have corys and read that they really need something more shallow. The rest of the fish are just what I have from when I stared with a 20 gal high. Went to a 20 gal long when I got the corys and really fell in love with them! I fear I will have to find someone to buy my production though, they are prolific little breeders! I want to get up to about 25 of them in the tank and keep it at that.

I am so excited. Added 10 more ember tetras (total 15) to my new tank and the are actually beginning to shoal. These new ones even got the older, hide all the time ones, out in the open. Great to see them actually moving about!

Wow, I love that big piece of driftwood. I think this will be a cory paradise. :)

They absolutely love that driftwood. I love watching them looking for little tidbits of food along the "channel". :)

Very sweet setup. That centerpiece wood is awesome.

Looking really good so far!
A few dwarf hair grass patch in the front left between the rock wall and drift wood would look great!

The hard part is always waiting for plants to grow in. And then when they do, they are magnificent!
Give it a few months to settle in nicely.
Those cory's are adorable! A whole shoal of 25 would be so much fun to watch patrolling for food.

Thank you. I am enjoying it. My panda corys are having a lot of fun. Just introduced two baby pandas. Fighting a little bit of algae right now as I try to balance everything out. Thinking about putting about 8 more Amano shrimp in and see how they can help out on that front.

Yes. I can't wait to get up to that many. Just put two of my older babies in yesterday. Seen one out scouting last night, but for the most part they are staying hidden. Have about 8 more small fry in a grow out tank.
