To get the nitrates and nitrites down. Nitrates were at 40ppm. Now they're down to 10.

bettafish2816
  • #124
I think between 2 and 4 ppm, maybe?

Well, it's hard to figure that out for a 80g, cause you have to wait hours for it all to mix in so you can get an accurate reading...
I try to add like 5 drops. Who knows what really happens though ;D

Hey Pink..I'm not sure what strength your ammonia is but I put 10 drops in my 10 gallon tank to get it up to 2ppm..But I could have a different strength then you too...I'm like you though..I've just been putting in a whole big dropper full of ammonia into my tank...I tested it a couple of times to see if it was where I needed it to be and then I just went off of that.lol..I would maybe test to see how high your getting your ammonia bring it up to 2ppm and then test in 12 hours.

Thanks Cesch... I'm pretty sure I was adding enough, since my nitrates hit 80 lol

I've finally got the pic to work... what do you guys think of it? To me it looks just like the Utah desert But I'm wondering about it, cause the decor only goes up half the tank. Should I try to fix that somehow, or does it look fine as is?

I'm going to take readings again after I get caught up here...

They are some plastic plants that you can attach the with suckers. If you want to put some more decor.

Wow, I've never seen any of those!

I took the readings. 0/.25/5 ;D ;D ;D
I guess I just tested too early yesterday. I expect that those nitrites will be gone tomorrow

Yep, for the 80g it'll be the 3 GSPs. For the 20 gallon I plan on a figure 8 puffer ;D

Yeah!!! I'm so excited and thrilled I can hardly contain it!!! They look like they're having soooo much fun!!! ;D ;D ;D

But let me tell you, trying to get the puffs out of their first tank was quite the challenge! Garth wasn't too hard to catch, I just offered him some food and he took the bait and I snatched him up. But then it was Stachi's turn... and he he what happened to Garth and took notes... he wouldn't come up for food! That is the oddest thing ever! He is so dang smart, he just outsmarted me at every turn! I even tried snails, but he didn't take to that either! He is way too smart for me lol! So I ended up having to take all of the decor out and chasing him around the tank. Poor guy. But I left the snail in the acclimating bucket to keep them company
I'm so so happy!!!

Yeah... I was thrilled at how fast Pistachio learned though. He saw Garth offered food, saw him caught and taken away, then saw food come to him, and said 'no thank you!'
I'm so proud of my smart little guy ;D
Now I just hope I never have to catch them in the 80g! Lol, that'd be fun, reaching in with the water up to my armpits!

Pink the tank looks great I really like the aquascaping and it looks like your boys really like it. I hope you never have to net them in the 80 gallon either. I had to net some fish out of my 75 today and I had to take all of the decor and plants out of the tank to get them all. What a pain, lol.

Lol, sounds like fun.... hehe
The tank doesn't look quite so pretty now as I dropped in a few hamster tubes for the puffs to play with. But it's just in my bedroom, so it's all good ;D
