My blue mystery snail, bluey, has been with us for about 8 months….. he’s huge about the size of an Avocado pit. One day he disappeared. It was noticed immediately and we searched EVERYWHERE in the house, we took out all tank decorations and inspected the best possible.
fast forward 4 months. By this point we assumed he crawled out while we were out of the house and our bulldog ate him, because she’s a bulldog and they do stupid things.
I recently rescaped my entire tank and we removed a bubble rock and our Raphael catfish would NOT come out as it was a semi hollow structure. I was shaking this thing as hard as I could and then I hear a rattle….. at first my wife and I thought. No way. Then as I slowly turned it, low and behold there is a huge blue mystery snail, I got him out with some tweezers after moving the rock around and getting him back to the opening. No cracks, He didn’t smell rotten, and he was firmly tucked….. I put him in water and he didn’t float. No way bluey is alive……
so we waited a few days and he never moved. i ended up setting up my quarantine tank…… put him in with an algae pellet and this afternoon….. he opened up….. not all the way….. just enough to snag the algae pellet and munch down as much as he could….. he’s very skiddish now which is understandable being that he was stuck In a dark space for a month and then shook like a rag doll. I felt horrible for him, we checked that rock but we never thought to shake the crud out of it….. he’s currently half out still munching on the pellet and I’m assuming he’s pretty weak. Hopefully he pulls through. I just wanted to share his story haha.
