My (moms) Tadpoles!

I figured I would post a thread about the tadpoles my mom is raising. It might sound harsh but they are in a unheated, unfiltered ten gallon tank. There are seven of what we think are American toad tadpoles. Please refrain from any Criticism about raising these, only tips. They have a bubbler. We feed them lettuce. This is our second year doing this and last year none of them died. We got these guys from a LMGC or local minI golf course with the owners permission. Once they are old enough to eat flightless fruit flies we keep them a week or two longer and then release them. Here are the pictures!(also, it just dropped to 40 degrees here suddenly so I don't know how many would have survived at the course.

I would do water changes with conditioned, temp matched water.
They might like java moss.
Don't leave decaying lettuce leaves in the water as they will pollute it very fast in an unfiltered tank.
Not sure of the bioload, but they would appreciate a filter

We do water changes and only leave lettuce in there for a short period of time.

Mine always loved algae chips.

My big black kitty Stinky killed innumerable tadpoles. He just could not resist them! So kitty-proof the tadpole habitat!

Eventually they will need a way to climb up out of the water onto land as they lose their gills. I had mine in a kiddie wading pool. It was filtered and had a nice island for them to climb up onto as they matured.

The ones we had here were toads. Cute litte things!

As they start to grow bigger legs we let them have more and more land space. We let them go at a small size. I am actually getting some Java moss soon! I think I may have some algae wafers laying around. They are really cute! They already have little tiny legs!

Algae wafers will pollute the tank if left in too long. I learned that the hard way the first time I had red cherry shrimp
