My Kuhli Loaches Are Such A Disappointment

I have 10 kuhlI loaches and 6 java loaches in a heavily planted 20 gallon, and all my kuhlI loaches do is hide and sleep. I would have gotten other types of fish if I knew they were this boring and non entertaining. My java loaches, however, they come out and play and wall dance.

My kuhlI loaches used to be fun and would wall dance too, but now they just lie around and do nothing. My kuhlI loaches suck.

My black kuhlI loaches hode al day too. At the beginning they were out and swam around and were fun to watch. Not anymore. I saw them yesterday when I did a 50% WC. Forst time in about 2 months. I even thought they were dead. I'm happy they are alive though.

I'm sorry you don't like them anymore. You can always rehome them if you don't want them anymore. Feel free to send them to me

It is really annoying when fish show their natural behaviour. Come on. Accept you provided them the best natural surroundings and they don't often show.
They don't suck but show normal behaviour that you don't like : quite a difference. Maybe your researsch wasn't good enoug, but you can't blame fish.

Few weeks ago I rediscovered a BN that is in for more than 2 years. Can I blame the fish for that ????? BTW having 2 kuhlis that I haven't seen for ages.

Khulis can be taught to come out in the day, if you use sinking pellets, and feed during the morning. They are naturally nocturnal, but they will come out when food is available, and are interesting to watch when they scavenge. I often see mine out during morning feeding time

Hi. I see mine out. I think I might seem them out more when I feed them omega one shrimp pellets rather than flakes or pellets or anything else.

What foods in particular do you feed your kuhlI loaches?

I feed North Fin sinking community pellets (.5mm size) and occasionally I drop in pleco wafers, which are loved by everyone, from the betta to snails, to the shrimp and loaches. they also love it when I drop in Zucchinni, red peppers, and cucumber.

I'm sure that the shrimp pellets would be a hit too, as they seem to like the protein rich foods. Occasionally the betta pellets make it to the bottom, and are gobbled up.

I think if I put food in just one area rather than in multiple areas, they have to come out and search more. In addition, I am not sure, but I think the portable bluetooth speaker that I play classical music might create more activity of the loaches. I haven't tested the music theory, but they come out sometimes today. However, they are still largely nocturnal

Yes, feed near the front of the tank, so that you see them scavenging
