Just found a seemingly healthy guppy in my main tank has some gold powder like coat on around the head. I don't think it's there before. Is it Velvet?? She's otherwise all good, active and has a good appetite.

Guppies can get odnipoum velvet sometimes. Its rare and a pretty quick killer. Copper treates it.
More often they get flukes, which are like external worms... Gills, And they burrow into the body and can attack the spine or brain, causing clamping, stringy poo, and shimmies. Fin rot.
Formalin bath or praziquantel in the water for a week is the treatment. Gotta repeat every week or two for a couple months to get rid of them.
Salt can help but don't go to heavey, as can heat speed up the cycle.

Ah I see. Thanks for your quick and helpful info!
About the gold pigment look around her head and mouth, is it more like a symptom of a disease or something else?

Check your water parameters in that tank.

Check your water parameters in that tank.
Copper treatments are harmful to snails. In case you have snails in there.

It's Oodinium (Velvet), Whitewolf is talking about. Google it and see if that's what your guppy looks like.

You'd treat velvet with a malachite green solution like this ASAP if that's what your fish has: with http://www.petworldshop.com/mardel/maracide-labs.php

Many thanks for your message. I'll treat her straight away! What a load of diseases in my tank!ead:
The ammonia + Nitrite has now been maintained below 1 as advised. I'm also using Prime every two days.
Make sure your guppy is sick with velvet before you treat it.

I can't see any other symptoms than those gold pigment look on her head, so I can't say it's 100% Velvet. It just looks like so... I think I'll have to separate her at least.

In case this link is helpful?

A flashlight shined on the fish may help you confirm the gold dust you see.

Many thanks JenC, from the link you provided, my guppy doesn't look like Velvet as she has none of the other symptoms. Also, I see the gold coat seems to only appear at a later stage of the disease but for now she hasn't shown any signs of being sick. So hopefully she's not ill at all!
