I've started hand feeding my dwarf gourami, and he's gotten fairly comfortable with is, and usually doesn't get too scared. But sometimes, when he's really excited, he'll just start spitting streams of water up at my hand.

Is this a normal thing, or is Peanut just even more ridiculous than I previously thought?

I've never heard of a gourami doing that, but it's common behavior among archerfish and similar complex fish that hunt prey above the water. Perhaps gouramis also spit water at bugs in the wild.

This is natural behaviour, they do hunt like this in the wild!!!!

although mine have never done that!!

My sparkling gourami's often come to the surface and shift the water around but not sure its the same as yours! Certainly Seems gourami's have a water thing going on tho! My goldfish gets excited when she sees me and comes to the surface and blows bubbles
