My fish only eat food fed by me, not others

My fish (a Thai tiger) is growing too big for my tank located in my bedroom. We fitted a much larger tank in my dads office and We moved it there. My dad told me it didn't eat any food for a week. I thought it was normal due to the changed environment and stress caused by moving. I decided to pay my fish a visit, and I to my surprise, it ate the food I fed. The next day, my dad fed the fish, it refuse the food. We let another guy try feeding my fish and it still refuse the food. Then in another day, I dropped by and fed some food which the fish ate up.

This is so weird as I have no idea my fish remember me so much to a point it will pick the food because of that. I want to ask do anyone have any similar issue? can I still train my fish to accept food from others?

btw, usually we will feed some fish pellet as main food source with some frozen fish or shrimp.

What happens if your dad feeds it while you're standing next to him? If it eats, or at least if it eats the food you give it while your dad is next to you, you should be able to teach the fish associate your dad with feeding time.

There are fish that can be choosy of who's feeding them. But that goes for fish with a good eye sight. Not all fish have a natural good eye sight and will react on shadows or an image with the right background (otherwise, it will be unclear what they see). I've written an article about the eye sight of fish. Those fish that have a good eye sight may recognize someone and associate them with feeding time.

If i wear a jacket and walk into the room my fishes get scared senseless; needless to say i stopped wearing my jacket when i visit them.... As for food - they are cichild - food is like all they wait for but i suspect if a stranger walks into the room they would first get scared senseless which is a bit worrisome (to myself).

The fish do eat when I am presented. I agree with your advice of letting the fish to associate with my dad to a degree he can feed on his own, or maybe make a cardboard that have my image printed on it and trick my fish thinking I am there. what do you think, is it a dumb idea?

Presonally I would try letting your dad feed them while you are in the room. After a few times hopefully you can stop being in the room with him.

Try this: withhold food for 2-3 days. My fish will eat anything from anyone after a fast. I keep them too fat and happy to want to take even minor risks, "oh he'll be back later with the food I like, served the way I prefer", dang ol' hoity toity fish I swear.

I agree. My first thought when I saw the discussion title was "It just wasn't hungry enough."
