My Fish Is Choking On A Rock

Okay yesterday my dad and I noticed that one of our goldfish in our 40 gallon tank was towards the bottom and opening and closing his mouth a lot. It only took a quick internet search to find out that he had a rock stuck in his throat. We took him to another tank that we were planning to put a betta in once the plants established their roots. That one was heated and has a bubbler which I am thinking about changing to a real filter if this continues any longer. Now after more research, I found that the best way to take out the rock would be to hold the fish's head above the water's surface and stick a pair of tweezers in their mouth and try to remove it. I am very worried that I might stick the tweezer in too far and damage something and make the whole situation even worse.
I gave our fish some cooked peas, but they are not eating them. I was talking with my dad and we are talking about changing from pebbles to big rocks and sand. I am really worried that we will hurt our fish if we stick tweezers in their mouth. Please help!

I would be worried as well. I had a fish (not a goldfish) do the same thing and he/she eventually spit it out.
On a different note, I would turn the heat down as well gold fish really like cooler water. Good luck!

Okay thank you! Do you know anything about the tweezers because my fish has been acting like this for about a day

Tweezers will work, you just need a steady hand. I did it with a paint can opener.

Thanks! just did some more research and some people said that they saw the rock in their fishes mouths, I don't should I be worried?

If you can't see the rock then don't try. It's probably something else if you don't see a rock. I don't know what it could be though.

Did you test the water? It might be a water quality issue.
You can try to use a medicine dropper or syringe to "suck" the rock out if you are sure it's a rock.

It might also be too far now to get it out and you will need to think about euthanasia.

Always use large river rocks or go bare bottom in Goldfish tanks. Things like this do happen. If you don't have pebbbles/rocks/sand they can't get anything stuck. Also be careful with what you feed them. Make sure it is soft enough and you soak their pellets in tank water before feeding them.

Thank you that's really helpful.
