My First Rabbit Snail Baby

Yay, I got my first baby rabbit snail yesterday. Something was happening that I didn't expect and was wondering if it is normal. She was working at this all day yesterday. Thankfully she was hanging right on the front glass so was easy to observe.

She expelled what appeared to be 5 empty shells before she finally expelled one with a baby in it. There were 2 smaller than the other 3 but they were pure white just like the one with the baby in it. After she expelled the one with the baby in it she expelled at least 2 more empty ones. I am kicking myself for not trying to get a picture of all the empty eggs.

I was actually able to see the baby inside the one egg as she was expelling it. I have to wonder why there were so many empty eggs. Has anyone ever observed anything like this with your rabbit snails?

How long did it take for that first one? I’ve had 3 rabbits for 3 months now and have yet to see a baby, not sure if they’re all the same gender or too young.

I have had rabbit snails for about a year. I was beginning to think I would never see a baby. Maybe some have been born and didn't make it. All I know for sure is I finally observed one being born.

I was hoping to see it out and about this morning but no luck so far. From what I've read they come out hungry and get right to work looking for food. I expected to see it on the glass this morning but no such luck.

So excited for you, and really cool to see in action. I wonder what caused her to back up with babies? I still haven't seen any babies from my big snail that had that weird jelly blob. Were the eggs surrounded with a jelly substance? I'm still trying to figure out what mine had.

Thank you. I know you have been waiting about as long as I have for this to happen.

No jelly substance at all. The eggs were perfectly smooth, round and pure white. She has to be exhausted this morning. She worked at this all day yesterday. Thankfully she is eating this morning so building up her strength.

I was thrilled to see one coming out with a baby in it after all the empty ones she had already expelled.

Congrats!
I kept them for a couple of years. I was surprised to find a egg sack one day and then a tiny fully formed snail.
Good Luck!
Post some pics when you can.

I don't know if this little one was the one I watched being born but I just glanced over and saw this tiny creature out and about. I was so excited I had to go out and get hubby to come in a see it before it decided to hide again. It is that tiny gray spot in the middle of the picture. :D
