My First Kribs

Ok I got some mixed advice and just decided to go with my own. I got a pair of kribs today, they are about 2 inches. I set them up as the only two fish in a 10 Gallon tank. I planted it (artificially) and added a pretty cool artificial cave. I'll get a picture up tomorrow. I read up before I went to the LFS and me and the owner scoped the tank and I'm pretty sure I have a male and female. The female has a nice round pink belly and and a more rounded dorsal fin. The male is less colorful and has a more tapered pointed fin. Within a few hours of getting them set up in their new tank their colors really came out. The male wasn't colored real brightly before but now his dorsal fin is edged in red/yellow and he's even got a little red on his belly. The female is still pink bellied but the rest of her has colored up a pretty vivid yellow and her dorsal fin is bright yellow on top. Anyhow, they are the only think I have in the tank, it's filtered with a cycled sponge filter (a hydro IV I believe). When I first put them in the tank the female seemed to chase the male around a bit. I left them be and went out with the family and came back and now they appear to be getting on famously. They are sticking pretty close and eating together when I dropped some bloodworms in. In fact they had a little Lady and the Tramp spaghettI scene with the bloodworms, a little more aggressive slurping though. Anyhow, we'll see how it goes. So far, I'm really liking these fish.

I love mine and they do really color up nicely when you have a male and female together. In a tank that small keep an eye on them when they go into spawning mode so nobody gets hurt.

Will do. I've got them right next to the bed so I can see them when I'm relaxing and first thing when I get up.

IMO a 10 gal is a little bit small; my male is about 4 1/2 inches long and my female is about 3 inches long. I think a 20 gal long would be better. The female needs space to get away from the male and hide and visa versa. I don't reallythink a ten gives them enough swimming space either but that's just my 2 cents

Mine are in a 30 gallon long and use all the bottom space.
the tank size is one of the reasons I advised to keep a close watch on them although a larger tank would be nice

Well so far they are ok. I don't have a problem upgrading in the future we'll see how it goes. I would put them in my 29 community but it's mostly Cory's and I think they would be annoyed at all the bottom traffic.
