My first big tank build!

Its been a couple months since my last post and I apologize, school has not given me much time to upload.

Its crazy to think that I started this tank almost one year ago. Im coming up to the one year mark this February and a lot has changed. I still remember when my fish were sick or when I was quarantining my Angelfish that was a baby at the time and now shes a whole chonky girl.

I made a video of pictures I took throughout the year. I made sure to take a pic each month to see the progress and its weird to think that its changed so much in these 11 months.

Looks like the link will take you directly to the video.

Here are some current pics of the fish and the tank. I’ll probably be switching it into a journal soon since my build is done.

Well it has been a very long time since I have updated this build thread. The 40g has changed a bunch over these last months, with the addition of a CO2 system and a brighter light. Plus the addition of the baby corydoras and pleco to the tank. I've really enjoyed setting up this tank and being able to document everything all on FishLore. Since I have not updated since March, here is a picture of the tank almost every month.

I do want to note that I was gone on a trip from June through the end of July so I do not have any full tank shots of the 40g.

March 2022:

Added the Calico Pleco from Demeter, was a small baby when first arrived (almost the same size as my nerite)! Bought a used CO2 Art Elite Pack and a 5lb CO2 tank off of MoreBeer, which didn't get set up until early April.

April 2022: Added in the Co2 but did not have bright light yet, it was running well no issues. Not too much has changed.

May 2022: Surprisingly I took no pics of the tank, nothing changed honestly. I was too busy getting ready for my 2 month long trip. Stocked up on automatic feeders for the tanks. Water changed before the trip and had a friend maintain my tanks while away. Luckily no deaths through the entirety of the trip!

We skip now all the way to the last week of July when I finally come back home. The tanks are overgrown with plants but every fish looks well! Cats were very excited for us to be back.

Floaters and the vals had almost overrun the tank. I added in a couple nodes of vals before leaving, but I didn't think they would grow crazy.

July 2022:

August 2022: Focusing more on turning my tank into a high tech tank. I add in the baby corydoras to be with their parents in the 40g and the tank is looking better. I rescaped the tank and it looks much better. I got rid of my 2nd massive amazon sword and sold it for some credit at a lfs.

September 2022: I felt like my plants were not getting as pinky/red as I liked so I upgraded to a Fluval 3.0. It is not at a 100% yet, slowly adjusting the light to see what works best. I ended up moving the AR to in front of the amazon sword and and added bacopa in the back middle. Anubias on the wood piece is growing extremely well and has even flowered. I also added in a Crypt Flamingo which has already made a mini plantlet!

Noticed some yellowing in my anubias, so I tested my nitrates which were at a 0. Added in some Macro ferts and will do a w/c tomorrow and add some more. Still trying to figure out the best schedule for ferts without causing an algae bloom.
