Here is a video clip of my new female betta named Precious. Her tank is a wee bit bare, but I will remedy that asap. Took an ugly silk plant out of the 29 gallon to add to the beneficial bacteria. What do you think? Shes a teeny thing.. ;D

Oh she's so darling! She looks so happy and peaceful in her tank.
She looks just like my Angel. Angel looked just like that when I got her and within a couple months started getting a lot of turquoise on her back. Here's a pic of my girl. They could be sisters!

She is lovely and the very first Dalmation female I have ever seen. You have a treasure there and she has a very sweet little face too. Welcome to you, little Precious. The name fits her.

LOL! Well, going by his name he should be a lover and not a fighter Maybe I'll move my monitor over so he can see the video...

By the way, what is a Dalmation betta? Is is a specific coloration?

A dalmation Betta is the result of a betta putting on his betta suit, getting drunk on Prime and thinking that dog at the fire station is looking pretty hot tonight! It is a style & the colors can be different.

Dalmation Bettas have spots (not little speckles but spots) of any color different than their body color on their body or fins. The pattern of spots never changes and doesn't always cover the entire body. Marbled Bettas also sometimes look like they have spots, but a marbled Betta will have constantly changing patterns and even changing color throughout their lives.
Romeo and my Niles should be changing their looks constantly and it should be interesting to see what new "clothes" they decide to change into.

Thank you Jendayi~
I'm very proud of her. There was another that looked almost like her sister there at the LFS. But Precious has such a sweet face, I couldnt resist her. Even after checking out a crowntail male that was absolutely beautiful, I kept her in sight and knew she was the one to come home with me. ;D

Hello Rose,
Thank you.. I didnt know she was a dalmation and after reading your post I went and looked at her some more. It seems that she has two round dots on her tail fin. Is that what you meant? She is a sweetie pie and continues to come to the glass whenever I am in the room. When I put her into a glass bowl to change out her gravel and add a few things to her tank, she just stayed on that side of the glass an watched me as I worked. It was so funny.. her looking at me and her tank and wondering what the heck I was doing to her home lol. She was very curious when she went back in and had to check it all out. I found a silk plant and a small roman column at a yardsale this am. Unfortunatly it was in what looked like a large vase.. grr.. an the women said she had a betta in there. I looked at it and couldnt believe that she would put a fish in there. She had two vases with aquarium plant and beach glass. I brought home the decoration after stopping at a pet supply shop where I picked up some gravel. Now Precious is all set!
Will take photos on monday of her new home redo. ;D

I did not know that! I hope Romeo doesn't lose his little koi looking spot on his head, I just think it's so cute. These little guys are just so interesting...

Female Bettas are wonderful to have! They can be so cute, like our Angel and like Precious. They tend to be very smart, active and curious - even more than the males.

Rather late responding but to answer about DALMATION BETTAS. They are Expensive and hard to come by. Miami Aquariums has had them occasionally and where the normal fish may go for $9.99 or so, Dalmations start at $50.00! They are any Betta who is spotted and looks spotted on the fins and/or the body or preferably both.

HI chickadee~
about those dalmation bettas, if you ever come across a photo or link to them, we would love to see what they look like. I only pay 2.50 for the female betta and a few more pennies for the male betta's at my LFS so I doubt mine is a dalmation betta, unless Precious is just a mix of some sort. Will watch her to see if she develops any more 'spots'.
thanks, kate

If she is a true dalmation (or half dalmation) the spots will stay exactly as is. Young females change DRAMATICALLY in color and patterns up to about 6 months of age. Most of my females do not even look like the same fish as I got back in December.
Breeders get rid of fish they don't think are worthy of breeding or show at a very young age and sent them to the chain stores. The fish are so young you really can't even guess as to how they will look at 3 or 6 months. I got one female, Noelle at about 6 weeks of age. She seemed to have a round tail at that time. Within weeks her tail began changing and she is now a double tail. You don't usually find those at Petsmart either but sometimes an unusual fish gets past the breeder and sent off with the rest.

HI Phloxface~
I can only see the two dots on her tail fin. I will watch and see if it changes over time, Either way, shes a cutie pie and I love her already! I can't wait to see how she changes over time w/age. Thanks for sharing the info on the dalmation betta. I bet your double tail is a beauty!! Have any photos in fishlore? ;D

Yes she is a Dalmation, and a very pretty one at that. And a clown with that pea. She must like the pea treats!

Rose

The Dalmation that I saw was a lovely male Halfmoon that was peach colored with red spots on eBay from Miami Aquariums and another Halfmoon male pale blue with darker blue spots. The peach was $50 and the blue was $40.

actually, he's a male. we never saw one like him, except for him until this last shipment of bettas at petco.. they got in about 5 or 6 just like Sora with peach bodies and red spots on the fins, but some of them had bigger fins and they were translucent.. all veil tails and quite active. I wish we had a place for them, i'd love to see them in a good home. they're beautiful Bettas.

Yes I see that now. I guess I was still talking about Precious and got confused with Sora. He is a Dalmation too. (for sure) The ones I saw were in the neighborhood of 3 months old and were definitely spotted and will hold their spots as they were spotted all over and they were really defined like Sora's. He is great and I love the pea trick.

Rose

p.s. PLEASE extend my apologies to him for me. I would not offend him for anything. Alex gave me a severe tongue lashing for such a dumb error.

LOL. it's ok. Sora's too mellow to mind and even if he did, he'd sell out for a pea treat. Thank you for helping us find out that he is a dalmation betta - I didn't even know about that type, we just bought him because I could resist that blue-eyed face any longer.

We're debating if we should get the dalmations still at Petco (along with a female that has a bitten bottom fin and stress lines and is likely to die in her cup as a rescue betta to get in a good home after she's recovered). Sora was in his cup for at least a few weeks before we couldn't take it and brought him home and these dalmations seem to be ignored by shoppers. It would be a real shame for them to die in their cups, so we were thinking of taking the dalmations to the Betta Show tommorrow and getting them good homes, but don't know what we'd do if we had to bring any of them back home.. it would be hard enough finding a spot for the little injured female.
