My Corydoras Keep On Dying

I recently finished cycling my tank. Shortly after that, I bought a batch of bronze cories. A few weeks later, they died through some kind of whirling/swimbladder disease. After that, I bought a set of Albinos (different breeder), they also died of the same symptoms. And now, I bought a few more bronze hoping they'll survive this time. Theyre with a school of Neon and Cardinal tetras. Water parameters are stable: Ammonia:0; Nitrite :0; Nitrate 5.

My theories:

1. They die of hunger? I don't feed them sinking pellets, I just crush some discuss pellets inside the tank and let them sink.

2. Lack of oxygen?

3. Water hardiness and high pH? My tap has high pH levels. Anf also dead corals as designs.

4. Bad batch?

5. Water temp? Temperature plays around high 10's to low 20's.

Please help. I really wanna keep Cory's. And if I can't, what are other substitute catfish that are very Hardy. Thanks!

You need to feed them shrimp pellets, brine shrimp, blood worms, earth worms. If you weren't feeding enough it usually causes sunken belly. How many fish are you adding and how do you keep the cycle going?

I did start with a bad batch unless you fed your fish with live tubifex worms. Whirling disease is the result of a paracitic protozoa called Myxobollus Cerebralis. The fish do the whirling motion because it effects the brain and nervous system. You can try looking it up online, but from what I know about this infection, there is no cure and it is contagious.

I heard it's a parasite that crawls into the brain and spine, affecting the movement of the fish.

It is paracitic, but it's a protozoa, so regular antiparacitic nor antibiotics have any effect on it. My advice is to never feed freshwater fish live freshwater food. Only feed them live brine shrimp if available. Otherwise only freeze dried blood and tubifex worms. You can feed live freshwater water food to saltwater fish. The diseases won't cross between salt and freshwater fish.

You never mentioned what size your tank is.

I would agree with the above though, I'd be tempted if I were you, if you have some where else to put the schooling fish (even a tupperware bin w/ your filters) for a few days to drain that tank and boil the out of everything in it.

Then I'd get some tetra safe start cause when you fill it up again you're going to need to soak your filters salt water or chlorine based bleach and replace all your media to make sure you've killed the heck out of what ever it is and hope that the cardinals and neons aren't carrying what ever it is.

Cause if it's a parasite it would have also been pooped out, which would explain why your second batch would have picked it up as well.

Tank is 15 gallons. I fed em frozen bloodworms before. And that was it.

The last from the old batch just died. It just stood there and breathe. If I touch him he swims away and lands on its back and breathes heavily again. If it were parasites, wouldn't the tetras also catch it?

Keep the cycle going? Isn't it if it's cycled then there's nothing to worry about?

If you have a cycled tank then you have no fish in it when the cories died the cycle died as well.

Ohh.. the tetras were always there since the beginning. Only cories die gradually. I'm thinking this is the last time I'll keep Cory's if tis batch dies. Ill probably get a pleco instead, it's probably more hardier. Don't wanna keep on seeing my cories die.

FORGOT TO MENTION: Cories also lose their coloration after a few weeks.

You Deffinetly need some sort of sinking pellet. If you have neon tetras with them they are likely out competing them for food.

Doubt the neons are getting all of the food because then they would be fat.
