My Betta's Story

I just have to say I think I'm addicted to this forum, I spend most of my nights just reading different posts on all kinds of things.
I just wanted to share the story of my betta and how far him and I have come!
I'm going to start this off right away saying he doesn't have a name and I've had him for almost a year. I've had bettas in the past and all the other ones I named died, so it's not happening.
So this is him when I first got him ... he was in a 5 gallon tank that I really hated and probably will never use again

and for the next part I don't really know the time frame, but I'm ashamed at my self for not noticing and not getting rid of the culprit sooner (which I know what it is)
This was him some time later

and I don't know how I didn't notice that sooner but it was pretty upsetting ...
I tried my best to help him but he eventually got like this

This photo is when I moved him over to a 10G tank (he was already like that in the 5g) that I had laying around but needed just about everything for ... filter, top, lights, heater.
But this is him now, he's currently in a 20 g that I had laying around cycling (because I sorta neglected him for a while due to some personal things going on and his tank got nasty)

He's currently living happily with his nerite buddy. I'm not sure if I wanna clean up the 10 gallon and put him back in there or if I want to make the 20 gallon his permanent home.
I know I'll probably never be able to get him back to his original glory but I'm so proud of how far he's come and don't worry I feel bad everyday for letting him get to that terrible point.
So yeah that's my betta's story. I'll probably give him a name on his one year anniversary but if he dies not long after, I'm never naming a betta again...

Just wondering, what in the world did that to him?

I believe it was the decor in his tank. The fake plants in the first photo were pretty hard and he liked to hang around them.

At the time I also didn’t have a water tester so it could have been that too.

i'm glad he's recovered i'm sure you're both much happier now!!

I neglected my last betta I had in college. half a gallon container, no filter or heater, one hiding place, poor diet, lazy with water changes (which were 100%). he ended up getting really terrible fin and body rot and lived for about 2 or 3 years. I didn't know any better though :/ it wasn't until I joined this forum earlier this year that I learned the proper way to take care of bettas, and am making up for it by trying to give my new little guy a great setup!
