My betta spitting out food

My betta has been spitting out the food that I had been feeding him. The pellets that I have used to feed him for the last half a year was kinda big so I tried a smaller pellet that’s meant for tetras. However, he still spits it out. This has been happening since yesterday morning and he has only successfully eaten one pellet without spitting it out. What’s wrong?

 

I don’t think anything is wrong with him; just think he either doesn’t like it or is getting used to it. IME I’ve had some very picky betas where it took weeks to get them to eat anything other than pellets (I mean these fish were literally spitting out bloodworms wheras all my other betas in the past would gobble them up right away.) You can try soaking the pellets in garlic juice if you would like, or just keep trying till he eventually eats it.

Betas are also carnivorus while tetras I beleive are omnivores, meaning that the tetra pellets probably wont be the best for a beta long term since they probably contain things that a beta really isnt mean to digest.

 

It's like answering why most people like pizza and some people don't. Or why someone's favorite food they can't stand anymore. Pretty much impossible! Really all you can do is try a variety and hope something takes. Or try fasting a few days and try the other pellets again.

 

You could also try soaking his pellets in garlic juice or use garlic guard to help encourage him to eat.
