Heard horror stories about Bettafix clogging betta Labyrinth. I was suggested to try using API stress coat with aloe as a conditioner. I've always used Tetra products for the two years I've had her. Would it harm her to change brands?

5.5 gallon Heated Filtered Cycled Tank
PH 7.6
Ammonia 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 5.0

No it wouldn’t harm her, as long as it removes clorine it’s okay to use. How did she get that?

Looks like a scratch from an ornament. Have any plastic ornaments? If so, remove them and add live plants.

Switching brands is fine as long as you know what you're switching to. Ammolock for instance detoxifies ammonia but in a war that nitrifying bacteria can't get rid of the ammonia. I've tried AmQuel and AmQuel 2, and found that they have caused pH and water hardness crashes. From my own trials, I prefer Aqueon water conditioner. But most of the posts I read from many experienced hobbyists use Prime. Now for my own question...how did your betta get injured?

I believe this is what happened :
Every morning I get up and turn her light on. I give her time to wake up and then when I go back to her she's up at the surface waiting for breakfast.
Well one particular morning I was running behind for work. I turned on her light and started shaking her food
(breakfast bell lol) and she rushed out of the hole on top of her decor that she sleeps in and was so excited it took her a few tries to wiggle out of that spot.

I think she banged herself up a bit trying to wiggle out

Just wondering. My betta has a favorite sleeping spot too so I understand.

I prefer not to use medication because it can destroy your cycle.

API stress coat is fine, it heals wounds and fins and conditions water. It won't hurt to change.

I know that medication is fine. I can just think of others that will kill your cycle.

Her injury based on the swelling looks more typical of bruising. If there is anything that looks like infection or fungus later, there are quick dip treatments that you can do with methylene blue or malachite green that won't harm the biological systems in your filter. The dips are quick, then rincing in tank water before putting betta back in tank. Hopefully we don't develop that need, but let us know if things start to look alarming. We can advise. Otherwise, just continue feeding and water changes as usual.

I would grab some Indian almond leafs to stop any infections and some daily water changes to fix it up.

This is what her injury looks like now... Notice the two small bumps. She's also struggling to swim now
