My betta fish is an ANGRY FISH

My betta doesn't even flare. When I put my finger in the water, he bites. Even if my finger is above the water, he will jump, and he will try to kill me. Does anyone else's bettas do this? I can't even teach him tricks like follow the finger, all he does is bite.

If he's just jumping at your finger without flaring, then he might have mistaken it for food.

He has done this multiple times, and he definitely knows it's not food. If I give him a bloodworm, he just takes the bloodworm and leaves. He did it 4 times today only, and I'm pretty sure he knows it's not food, as he's smart enough to recognize his reflection (He did flare at first).

I only have two, they're in a divided 10 gallon, with live plants and moss balls. My blue double tail is scared of everything and never flares, while my red veiltail just wants to watch the world burn.

They sound like very cool fishies! I currently have 6 and still ongoing!

Honey the 'Dwarf Chocolate Rosetail' goddess who rules all universes, currently residing in a 37 gallon Tall heavily-planted blackwater Walstad! She shares her space with about 20 "Chocolate" Neocaridina Shrimp, 3 Amano Shrimp, several Snails (3 Nerite & 1 Black Devil), and 3 Otocinclus!

Banana the sweet '8-finned Super Delta' who lives very happily in his 20 Tall heavily-planted Walstad, along with 2 Amano Shrimp, 1 Nerite Snail, several Ramshorns, and 3 Otocinclus!

Vermilion the stunning 'Scarlet Veiltail' who lives like a king in his 40 gallon Long heavily-planted Walstad! He lives with a few Neocaridina Shrimp, 3 Amanos, several Snails (1 Mystery, 2 Japanese Trapdoor, 2 Nerite, & 2 "Giant" Ramshorns), a small school of Corydoras hastatus, and 3 Otocinclus!

Fig the marvelous 'HMPK rescue', living happily in his 29 gallon heavily-planted Walstad, aka the "Show Tank"! He resides with a group of Neocaridina Shrimp, 3 Amanos, 1 Red Lizard Whiptail Catfish, several Snails (2 Nerites, 2 Japanese Trapdoor), and 3 Otocinclus!

Flag the special needs 'Thai Flag Rosetail', happily residing in his 10 gallon heavily-planted Walstad! He lives with a group of 6 Neocaridina Shrimp, 2 Otocinclus, and 1 Nerite! He's a very happy boy!

And last, but certainly not least, is Citrus, the beautiful 'Yellow Halfmoon'! He lives in a heavily-planted 5.5 gallon blackwater Walstad along with 2 Nerite Snails and a mixture of 12 Yellow and Golden Back Neocaridina!

My betta Mick used to do this and it scared the heck out of me the first time! He gets into a frenzy when he knows it's time to eat that's for sure.

I sense a case of MTS.

I think he's temporarily scared of my hand now, I was getting him to jump for food, but he missed by a centimeter and bonked his face on the tip of my fingernail. I think he blames the fingernail, earlier I was hand feeding him and he decided to bite it.

Let him nip your finger a few times and see if his attitude changes. Does sound like a fun fish. Try to get him to jump through a hoop using your finger as an enticer

He can't jump very high though. He'll do anything the easiest way possible. He knows if he doesn't jump for food, I'll lower it down. Easy fix, lol. If I even submerge a bit of the hoop in water, he'll either just swim around, or he'll crawl through. I am giving him a freeze-dried bloodworm every time he bites me.

Try frozen ones and see how he does. If your not already feeding him that. From what I hear freeze dried tend to expand a bit of their not soaked. Not trying to sidetrack your thread sorry.

Never got frozen ones, maybe I'll try that.

MTS = Multi Tank Syndrome.... not sure where that comes into play on this specific thread either?

He has 6 separate tanks dedicated for his bettas, and they aren't smaller tanks either.

My crowntail was the bitey bitey kind of angry. Open up the feeding hatch, bit that. Splash after food. Bite me when i vacced or fed. All my other ones have been far more chill. But still plenty agressive.

It depends on the mood of my betta. She bites sometimes when she is feeling particularly excited. Most of the time she just follows me around.

My male koi plakat was seemingly the aggressive one out of my two bettas. I had him in a 10G by himself and I wanted to add tank mates but was scared for their safety. When I first added my ADFs he flared, nipped, and chased the poor boys around the tank. But then by that night he had established a pecking order and ever since they’ve gotten along just fine. No signs of stress even from the frogs he bit. They swim in front of him and bump him on a daily but he seems only mildly annoyed in the moment.
My delta tail was the calmest when I had them in a divided tank. He’s scared of my finger and never nibbles it or my arm like my koi does. But after adding a mystery snail, I’m glad I didn’t try him with the ADFs. He’s mean as ****. Thankfully he’s starting to leave my poor snail alone but he’s had the biggest issue with his tankmate surprisingly.

Update: I'm not gonna feed my veiltail for a few days. Why? I was holding a small chunk of bloodworms to jump for, piece by piece, but legit snatched it out of my hand and ate the whole thing. BAD FISH. At least he got good exercise.

I never had a betta that does that, but I do have a psychopath cat that fits that description! hilarious
