my angel fish are eating my new neon tetras

I got my hank about 6 months ago..... the first time I got fish I got about 6 different kinds of fish I'm not sure all the types but non were extremely tiny.
Anyways 1 had jumped out and died then his buddy got sad an died and then my bottom Dino looking thing got fin rot and died and then I was left with only my tiger striped loach and 2 angel fish.....one pretty large fin black angel and a smaller white and yellow one.

The yellow smaller angel always bullies chases and nips at the pretty black one. The black one seemed to be nice though.

Anywho.... yesterday I bought 5 neon tetras and 1 golden age eater. I added them to the tank and my pretty black angel has been tormenting them. I went to go check on them and the angel ate a tetra...I couldn't believe it as he's normally the nice angel. The yellow angel hasn't really worried about the small fish and atill is bulling the black angel.

I went to bed and now I have out of 5 neons or 2 left.
I dunno what to do...... I was told I can return my angels for atore credit and get many smaller fish. Which I think at this time I prefer a filled tank rather then two large pretty fish. What do you suggest?

Also my tank is a 20 gal freshwater

I know with 2 angels it's already over populaTed but I was going to either return one eventually or up grade my tank size. It's just sad because I really loved these angels. But they are just so mean.

Angels can be very aggressive. Also, neons and angels have different temperature requirements so you're going to need to choose which temperature you want to keep your tank at and stock for that. Not even one angel should be in a 20 gallon and I'm not too sure about your other stock.

I'm guessing your bottom dino looking thing was a common pleco and they need a 150 gallon tank because they can reach 2 feet in length and have a huge bioload!

Do you know about the nitrogen cycle? Click on the blue words to read up on it.

Do you have a test kit?

What are all of your water parameters: ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH and temperature?

Welcome to the forum!

Oh, and the golden algae eater is probably a Chinese algae eater and can get aggressive. I don't recommend them.

Angel fish naturally prey on neon tetras in the wild. That is normal behavior for them and has nothing to do with being mean. The minimum tank size for an angel is a 20 gal high but most prefer bigger. The Black one is bigger which is probably why the other one didn't bother trying to eat the neon. However that being said if the neon was stressed or sick and not acting right that also would be a reason for the angel to go after him and neons can be sensitive to a change in environment. If you want to keep one of the angels than put some bigger fish with them such as a school of glowlight tetras or black neon tetras, or cherry barbs, or harlequin rasboras . They all get big enough not to get eaten. Alison. Also when you put new fish in the tank then turn the lights off for a few hours to let them settle in and get comfy. It is less stressful for them.

The golden algae eater is a variety of CAE.

If you don't have your own test kit and decide to have the pet store test your water be sure to ask for specific numbers and not just accept their assessment. What they think is "fine" might not be, and vice versa. Ask here about your results

Also ask what kind of test they used.

I personally would take that CAE back. You don't want one of those.
