My African Dwarf frog was in my 10 gallon community tank yesterday, and suddenly she started floating up to the top, then swimming back down only to float up again. Her belly looked a bit swollen, but nothing like what a AFD with a bad case of bloat looks like. Thing was, she was most definitely not dead. If I lightly poked her, she'd immediately zoom back down to the bottom.
Whenever she would come back down, she'd immediately scramble for something to crawl under. The plastic plants, the bottom of the submersible heater, the hides/caves, even under the pleco. I've had this frog since September 2015, and I've never seen her do this before. Does anyone have an idea on what this might be? I'm guessing maybe just a buildup of air.
I tested the main tank water. Everything came back fine, and I put a new filter pad in there too. I have the frog in a small quarantine tank for now, and for the most part she's not doing it anymore. I think I'm gonna keep her quarantined for the next week or so, just to keep an eye on her.
UPDATE: I got a 2.1 gallon critter carrier and put the frog in there instead of the half gallon one I was using before.
UPDATE 2: I've had her in a tank by herself for 2 days now, and she no longer has a floating problem. She still seems happy and healthy.
