My 37 Gallon Have Ick

Hello,

I'm restocking my 37 and I bought 12 black skirt tetras the other day and I noticed last night that they have ick on their fins. I went out today and bought some ick medicine called Ich-X and on the directions it say to do a 1/3 water change every day before putting the ick medicine in the tank.

My question is isn't this too big of a water change each day? Also on the bottle it said to clean the filter media before using it do I really need to do this?

All of this seems like it would kill the good bacteria in the tank .

Don't think it says anything about cleaning filter media but it does say to remove carbon if you use it as filter media and yes you do need to remove it.
changing 1/3 water is not a big daily change, I used the same product and it worked good.

on the label this is what say to do on the filters
(1) Always treat in a separate quarantine tank. ( My whole tank has ick so why move them)
(2)Remove activated carbon from filters and clean or replace mechanical filtration media.

I run two aqua clear 50 filters on this tank with just sponges in it so wouldn't this kill off a lot of the bacteria doing all of these water changes plus cleaning the media (in tank water)?

I didn't clean my media and would not, just remove carbon.
water changes don't kill BB
I noticed Ich X started controlling ich and getting better within 24 hrs, but I did treat for about 9 days to be safe.
I kept my temp around 85 as well

My black skirt tetras had ich about a month or so ago and I had great success without medication using heat and very thorough gravel vacs. I did about 35-40% water change and gravel vac 1/2 the tank every other day. I just made sure to keep the water temp up to 86 and not let it fluctuate when adding new water. I don't use an air stone so I dropped the water level an inch or 2 so my filters had a waterfall effect to help oxygenate the tank with the increased temp.
