I'm new to fish keeping, I rescued a betta fish, got him a 5l temp tank and heater, treated him with meds, gave him water conditioner and he looks betta haha...anyway so I did one last full water change to get rid of the sickness he had, he was happy with it, then this morning the waters cloudy with a film on top and he's been farming bubbles all night! I've done a full water change before and this didn't happen, what do I do?!!! I haven't got a filter yet...

I would say you got a bacteria bloom, which my be a indicator that you have to much ammonia or you have added to much water conditioner when you did your water change.

I'm not sure you can do much to help other then get a filter and test your water parameters. To many water changes can stress you fish so Id leave it a few days and do a small 30% water change. I would also advise against changing 100% of the water.

Testing your water If you have no test kit or strips any good pet shop should do one for you, if you live in the U.K. then pets4home will do a test if you ask. Just take a sample of your fish tank water down, make sure the cup/bottle you used is clean, rinsing out with boiling hot water will do the trick.

It's very important to get a filter so your tank can do a cycle.

Hello.
The film on the surface is protein. Best way to get rid of it is through aeration. I strongly strongly recommend that you get a filter asap.
The cloudy water may because the water is not cycled and there is no beneficial bacteria to break down the ammonia and nitrites. You need a filter.
Do you know about the Nitrogen cycle? This is very important for fish to live.

The bubble nest he is making is normal, nothing to worry about. Until you are able to get a filter, keep doing partial water changes. Do not do a full water change, I suggest maybe 50%.

Get a filter asap! I also noticed you have a sea shell in the tank and just so you know you should take that out, it screws with the ph of the water.

No way! It's coming out right away! Is clear quartz and pebbles ok? They were well cleaned before entering his tank! Thank you!

Thank you! So even though we will get him a 10 gallon tank this week, with everything and do a full cycle before I put him in, so he'll be one one week I guess before he's in the big tank with the filter but you still think to get a filter for the small tank which we will keep to treat him or to grow things in, rather than doing 25% water change everyday until he moves?? Thanks again

The shell may raise the pH, but that won't hurt him. You can leave it in if you like it.

I wouldn't bother cycling the new tank without him in it. He's sitting in a filterless tank where ammonia can build up anyway, which is worse than being in a cycling tank in my opinion. I would add him to the new tank as soon as you get it and prepare for a fish-in cycle. Until you can get him moved over, I would do 25-50% water changes daily.
