Putting the finishing touches on my current 2 tanks. 29G Community is just waiting on a few more KuhlI Loaches to arrive at the LFS. Just finished stocking my 75G Cichlid tank. Need to replace the background and waiting on my 2nd filter to arrive and set that up. Once those things occur, it's maintenance.
So, time to start planning tank #3 right??? My past two tanks I've jumped into without really planning/thinking things through, so decided I'd start this thread. While I'm eventually going to want to do a 10g-20g Betta tank, I think based on a conversation with the wife, that I'm eyeing a ~55g in the bedroom. She likes the idea of watching it when she falls asleep.
I've got a 4' wide section for the tank. I think I'm going to need to stick to 12" depth. I think 18" is going to invade too much space. So that has me looking at a 55-60g tank. Tank will get a decent amount of natural light, but I'd like to set up the lighting so we can have it on at night in bed, but not super bright to where it's hard to fall asleep.
My 29 gallon community is all Asian fish. My 75 gallon is MalawI Cichlids. I think ideally I'd love to focus on South American species. Doesn't necessarily need to be a biotope, but debating that idea. Alternative idea is a 2nd cichlid tank.
With the SA route, here's some options of floating in my head. I haven't even gotten to the point of deciding if this is feasible or compatibility.
- Pair of Angels
- 1/2 dozen Silver Dollars
- School of Tetras
- Large shoal of Cories or maybe 2 shoals of 10-12
- Bristlenose Pleco?
This is about as far as I've gotten thus far. Open to ideas/suggestions. I'll respond or update as I move forward.
