Mts Battle

I fought a MTS battle at lunch today and won!

I went to Petco on my lunch break just to browse and look at fish. The fish seemed healthy. All the tanks were clean and there were no dead fish. Then I checked out the bettas in their cups and of course felt bad for them. But I held fast and didn't even think about taking one home.

Then I got to the baby bettas. They were small, can't really tell what tail types they'll be. Nothing was grabbing my attention...until I saw this little baby boy betta. For some reason, he just seemed so much cuter than the other babies. And then I started thinking... should I do it? Do I dare set up a third tank? I didn't really want another small tank. I want my next tank to be a big one.

But I still found myself looking at the small tanks. Checking out some kits and then I saw the Fluval Specs. The 5 gallon Spec would be perfect. I even had the perfect spot in my mind for it. I was so close to getting a shopping cart and filling it up with a tank, sand, heater, thermometer, and of course that cute baby betta boy.

But instead, I walked right out of the store and went back to work. I won this MTS battle. But I doubt I'll win the war. Petco is on the way home after all...

You obviously don't understand the point of being a fish keeper. It's to lose the battle of MTS and share your failure with the rest of us to make us feel better about failing as well...

Though I do agree...you need a big tank I will say though that the fluval spec v was an excellent betta tank when I had one.

I almost want to get the $499 125g ensemble at PetSmart, but I'm not ready for it yet. I need to get my basement refinished. I keep thinking about doing a 40B now but I figure, if I'm gonna do a 40B, why not just do a 55? Then I say, well a 75 is just as long as a 55, so get a 75! And that just brings me back to the basement not being ready yet. I don't want any big tanks upstairs. Vicious circle haha.

basement? you need a 180

But in all seriousness, don't do a 55. I hated mine. So tall and so thin. I know lots of folks keep them but man...I like my 40 and 75 so much better.

I can smell the weakness all the way through the internet. Give it time and you'll understand how this MTS is supposed to work.

We are all proud of you for not getting the betta! But if your going to blow it, and feel bad about it, make it worth it (that 75 sure sounds good)

Shoot, I meant the $499 125g at PetSmart not 75g. I'll have to edit that.

I wouldn't say no to a 180g for the basement!

And I agree about the 55g. The footprint is terrible.

I succumbed to MTS a few years ago and had 7 tanks running. It defeated me. If I'm going to surrender again, I want some big tanks rather than a bunch of small ones. But I need my basement done. A 40B upstairs would be ok though. Hmmmm....

DSCN4454.JPG A 180 does sound a lot better. who needs all those pesky small tanks any way. I'm so proud of myself, I saw a 600 gallon with an oak stand and 4 FX6 filters that were never used for $3000 and I didn't even reply to the ad. I'll just have to settle for my measly 360 gallon!

It's awful...but fun. I planned on having just my 5 gallon Betta tank. Then decided to start a 10 gallon sorority. Now I'm gonna pick up a 20 gallon long friday cuz the girls can always use more space.

Thankfully, I can't have more than that in my apartment. I'll be lucky if those 3 tanks don't get me in trouble.

Good job! It is a struggle!

I want another betta. But I know it is because I lost my beloved Otto 2 weeks ago. He was my DG. I gotta wait until my QT is empty again before I replace him. So I have to wait. I almost bought fish today, but kept my head down and only bought frozen fish food.

Ugh, I'm so weak. I'm seriously thinking about going to Petco at lunch and getting that baby betta and setting up a Fluval Spec V. I have 40 minutes to talk myself out of it.

You are asking the wrong people for help

The Spec V is a nice tank...

A spec V is a great tank for a betta! It has both the length and the height.
if you really wanna splurge why not just start a sorority!

I caved. I lost this battle hard. I now have a baby betta swimming in a cup on my desk at work. I'm gonna have a busy night.

Did you get the spec v?

My suggestion would be to turn the pump down to it's lowest setting and point the output to the surface. It's got quite a bit of flow and was too much for my beta. I ended up having to put a prefilter sponge over the output and cut a hole in it to baffle the flow. Was a great tank though

Yep I did. I had a Spec V in the past and I did exactly what you did. Turned it down, pointed it up, and put the Fluval pre-filter over it. He's a tiny guy, so he'll definitely need it baffled.

I'm having a battle right now too. My tank numbers keep creeping back up and I'm trying to keep things manageable.
I have a 135g sitting in my yard that my angels would like much better than their 65g. I just brought up to my husband about building an other stand and bringing it in and getting rid of the two 55 gallon tanks.
I think I'm crossing over from MTS to BTS. I want less work but I don't want to give up any of my fish.

Will do.

Yeah the fish at this particular Petco look pretty good. The tanks are all clean and there are no dead fish. Even the adult bettas in the cups all look good.

I think you and my wife might be related.
Was at the LFS getting some supplies.
Wife disappeared.
Found her at the bettas.
"He's been here for several weeks. If he's here next time, we're getting him".

That's how I ended up with sunshine (sev in my avatar)...he was getting killed by a large geo and there was some crazy woman in the store yelling at the geo every time it would come put a whooping on the fish...that crazy woman was my wife and refused to leave until I took it home with us.

Very nice but he looks crowded. I'd get a 125G as soon as you can.
Nah, that's too small, he'd outgrow that in a month, you should get a 210.
