Moving Tanks And Water Circulation

I don’t know how you guys do it! Moving 55 gal, 120s yada yada...

Pivoted my dresser/tank so it sat in the corner of the wall differently just for asthenic purposes. Seemed like I simple task but it took forever!

Fish are completely unfazed by the whole experience lol

Cool part is now I can really just watch the tank from my bed and it got me thinking. How do you know that your tank is getting the adequate water flow/disturbance/circulation?

Mine is only a 20 gal with a HOB filter that moves 100gph so I’m guessing that’s fine? Seemed to find mixed views on it online and in videos and seems to only be a real “issue” for tall or rather large tanks.

Most folks recommend targeting 10x the tank volume in gph for a hob filter. By that metric, your underfiltered by about half. But that doesn’t necessarily account for bioload. So if you’re very lightly stocked (and plan on staying that way) maybe you’re okay.
Are there spots at the bottom corners of your tank where debris accumulates, eg once it’s there it’ll never get moved out unless you collect or vac it?

I would get another filter like an aquaclear 50 and turn down the flow on it. I would also get a fluval edge pre filter for the intake of the hob. I like setting up a powerhead on a timer to run for a half hour each day with a lot of bubbles. This will stir stuff up from the bottom and mix up the water.

I have a marineland 150 hob and a single sponge filter on my 20 high and I'm overstocked..you'll be fine, imo get a sponge filter it works amazing

Those off us with large tanks figure out where we want them first. Once it's in place and filled there no rearranging of the tank location. My 150 gallon tank by itself is about 200lbs completely empty.

Even my 55s stay where they are despite me wanting to find a different place. They are placed right where I wanted them at the time.and I am to lazy I guess to move them about.
