Moving Tank To New House

So this is pretty random I was just looking to see if anyone had experience with moving and having fish. When I had a ten gallon it was easy. In 2020 we’ll be moving around March into a home. I have a 29 gallon tank about 15 fish. Any recommendations on moving the tank?? Or any experience? I’ve read it’s good to save them for last so you can set them up right away at your new place. I’ll use as many five gallon buckets to transport their water. Should I bag each fish up like at the pet store? Put them all in a five gallon bucket? It’s gonna be tough I can tell.

How long a trip is it? What kind of fish? If just across town, and small-medium community fish, drain water from 29 into 5 gallon bucket (about 2/3 full) and net fish into there for transport. Drain enough of the rest of the water out of the tank that you can load it into your vehicle. Keep your filter media/decorations/wood etc. wet either by placing the media in the bottom of the tank or in another container of tank water and move the whole lot to the new place! No need to move water, just refill tank with fresh dechlorinated water. The nitrifying bacteria is growing on stuff in the tank, not floating in the water.

I moved a 55, 30, and three 10 gal tanks... I'm not a master aquarius but I didnt lose a single fish. Fish were the last thing out of old house first into new one, I took out all decorations, left about 3 inches of water in the tanks then slow and steady won the race let everyone go first corners super slow, basically coast into stop signs, take off like a buick full of granny's headed out of church get to the new place fill them up get essentials going o I also left bio bags in the 3 inch water. Hope it helps, good luck!!

So I have moved a few fish tanks, once because I bought a tank with fish, once for some adopted fish and a few times with my own fish.
Drain the tank, take the water in buckets if there is a significant difference in parameters at the new place. Put some prime in the water and place fish in a bucket with as much water as is comfortable, depending on what type of fish and how many and how far you have to go.
Drain the tank down, leave the substrate wet if you can lift it with it in there. You could do a thorough gravel vac at this time as well, and you will save yourself some work when it's refilled. Keep your filter media wet and go! Set up the tank, put your water in, add filters and fish and get your temperature back up to where it was before.
I haven't ever moved anything really sensitive, mostly just common tropical species and goldfish, but everything I have moved has done fine.
As long as you don't shock them with too big of a parameter swing with the new water they should be ok.
If there's a big difference in the numbers you could start doing water changes ahead of time with the new water if you can get some and get the fish used to it that way. If you do that then they won't have to adjust so suddenly if you can't take a large amount of the tank water with you.
What's in your tank? Anything really sensitive?

I wasn’t expecting this good of replies back this is awesome. I have mostly tropical fish. I have three five gallon buckets so I’ll take as much water as I can. Slow and steady drive on the way over. Not sure where the place is yet just lookin ahead for further recommendation. Thank you everyone!

When I went from a 20 gal to a 29 gal two of fish started to lose color. They were in the bucket for an hour bc my filter wasn’t taking water in so I had to take it apart. If not for that it would have been 40min. I read fish lose their color to stress but they’ve since regained t.
