Moving My Fish To A New Tank

HI everyone! This might be a short thread as I hope I have done enough research. I've bought myself a Fluval Roma 240 and I'm very excited since this is my first new tank (the rest of mine being second hand).

It also comes with a fluval 306 external filter. To ensure that my tank new tank doesn't cycle all over again, I plan on moving the two internal filters I have, along with some water from the old tank to keep the healthy bacteria alive, into the next tank. I also plan to put some ceramic rings in the old tank and move them across into the external filter in hopes of good bacteria being added there also.

Is there anything else I can do to stop my new tank from cycling all over again when I set up the next tank?

Much appreciated!

99% of your cycle bacteria are in the filter, so there is no need to save dirty water or put media in the tank itself. Simply using seeded media or old filtration will be enough. There may be a slight hiccup as some of the bacteria are lost, but you shouldn't have to start the cycle all over again.

If you want to seed ceramic rings, put them in the filter, not the tank.

Interesting, thank you. So if I put the two filters in the tank and fill up the tank with fresh, treated, water then the bacteria will be fine?

They sure will, just make sure they have a source of ammonia (fish and fish food) to feed them within 24 hours of setting the tank up!

Thank you once again! I'll be sure to do that
