Hi, I am moving in December and I am getting a 75g tank that will be set up in the new place. So they will go from old place in there 45g directly to the new place into there new home. I need suggestions on how to move 7 cichlids to the new place. They will need to be in transport about 20-25 minutes.

As you are only moving a fairly short distance you should be ok catching them and bagging in some tank water. I moved a similar distance once and used an insulated polystyrene box instead of bags which worked out well too.

If you are transporting filter media to seed the new tank make sure that stays wet as well.

Ok and No. The new tank will have two new tidal 110 filters with new media. Or should I put the new media in a container and fill it with water from my current tank and let it soak for a day or two.

Putting new filter media in tank water for a couple of days will do little or nothing. However, installing the new filters with media on your old tank and allowing them to run for a few weeks will get them loaded with beneficial bacteria will do wonders. Unless you will have access to both houses for about six weeks, the biggest problem will be getting the new tank cycled before you move the fish over from the old tank. Running the new filters in the old tank will get the media ready for the new tank. I would also suggest that you run the old filter from your existing tank in your new tank for a few weeks until the new tank substrate, walls, etc. are also covered in beneficial bacteria.

A picnic cooler (the larger the better) is ideal for moving fish from one place to the other. You are lucky the move is a short distance. Twenty years ago I had to move a cooler full of fish almost 1000 miles over two days. Fortunately, it was September, so the weather was moderate. Moving to Chicago in December or January would have been difficult.

I'd put the old media in the new filters.

I don't see any benefit to starting with completely new media if you don't have to.

The new tank will have two Tidal 110 filters. Unless you have two filters of that size in your current tank, you won't have sufficient media to fill the two new filters.

You could just pre buy your new filters, stick them on the existing tank until you move. Then take the new filters with the fish in transport and set it up all at once. You're still running a risk but this would probably be the safest option imo. Be prepared for fluctuations and spikes just in case.
