Moving Freshly Molted Shrimp

My Vampire Shrimp molted during the night. While I am thrilled to see that it is growing and doing well, I was planning on moving it to a quarantine tank today so I can treat my tank for an ich outbreak. Obviously, he is very soft and easily damaged now and I don’t want to harm him. How long should I wait to move him? I only have a 5 gallon quarantine tank, so it’s easier to move 1 shrimp than 30+ fish. I have increased the temp for now.

I would wait at least 24 hours, but 48 would be better. The new shell hardens quickly - you just don't want to accidentally interfere.

Once he's out and acting normally, you're probably okay to move him.

Thanks. That’s what I was thinking. I have only had this little guy for 3 weeks. Happy to see that this little one is growing and doing well, but it’s really put a wrench in the plans to treat this ich outbreak, lol.

If you can, I'd scoop him up in a tupperware or something. They're usually pretty slow, so it shouldn't be too hard. It might minimize stress/damage to the new shell.

Either way, don't worry about it too much! They're tough.

I was thinking about using a container with a lid to scoop him up. I am afraid that a new might damage his fans or he might get stuck in it and get hurt even if he hasn’t just molted. Maybe I am just being over cautious ‍♀️
