75 Gallon Tank Moving fish (within 30 miles)

Hey friends! I’ll be moving my fish about 30 miles on the LA freeway to my new location. Is there a certain way I should go about transporting them? Any tips for a short trip? I was thinking of draining my 75g, which contains nothing but goldfish, down to about 20% water volume and moving them like that. The other tropical fish I have (mixture of bettas, mollies, platys, swordtail) will have a new tank waiting on them at home, but since I won’t be taking their tank with me, I figured I would put them in 5g plastic storage bins temporarily.

obviously I would then drive as smoothly as possible until I reach my home. Any little tips that can help me in this process? Would hate for something to happen!

thanks in advance!

Dont think I would leave much water in tank for a tank that large. Obviously, I'm no expert, but. you should probably check. Cichlid Bros On youtube have a good video about it, but I'm pretty sure the main points were to conserve as much tank water a spossible, keep bio filter media wet with tank water, transport fish in buckets with airstones, keep sand wet, etc. You should really check it out yourself, pretty sure the situation was similar to yours.

Keep your filter wet and your fish wet. I never move tanks with any water in them as I don't think they're designed to have that weight in them without something underneath them. Big storage tubs/buckets from a hardware store (Food grade) work best. Save as much tankwater as possible. Lids on buckets/tubs is great for driving.

don't move them in the glass tank. use a plastic tub or ice chest with an air stone.

I got 35L lidded storage tubs, towels and a couple of bricks for the lids ( corners and breaking happen ) . I don’t know if you have a way to power anything like air stones , if so great , if not put them in as soon as you get back. As others say keep media wet. Can you move at a quieter traffic time just incase , maybe check there’s no closures or road works on route too ( my phone map usually warns me and is usually pretty up to date ) . Best of luck !!
