Moving fish to larger tank

I just got a 75 gal tank. I currently have a freshwater (with a few plants) 29 gal. that has been established for about 10 months. I know everyone talks about doing a fishless cycle for the new tank, but is it necessary? I only have one filter (Cascade 1000 canister filter) so I can't have it going on both tanks. Not to mention, I don't really have room to have both tanks set up at the same time. If I move the filter over without changing out the media & even siphon the water from the old tank to the new, will that help?

If you keep the same stock list that is currently in your 29, you will be fine just moving everything over to the 75. Once you get the 75 set up, you will want to slowly add new fish, and let the bacteria colony catch up.

You may also want to think about adding a second canister, or a HOB. For reference, I had 2 Cascade 1500's on my 75.

Thank you! I know I need a bigger canister, but I haven't decided which one yet. I figured since I wasn't adding more creatures yet, I could probably hold off for 2-4 weeks. The light that came with the 75 isn't enough, either. This is the Christmas gift that just keeps taking.

Not necessarily bigger, but in addition to. Always nice to have 2 filters on a tank in case one of them breaks down.

Then I have 2 filters to worry about if the power goes out. A few months ago, I learned the hard way about my pump & what happens when the power goes out. I came home to about 10 gallons of water on the floor.
