Moving and MTS and RCS

I'll be moving my tank next week, across the state (a 10 hour or so drive), and I'm curious as to what I should be with my MTS. It can't net them all out of the sand, I'd be there forever! So should I get as many as the bigger ones out as I can, and be done with it, or do you think it'd be ok to leave just enough water in there to come up over the sand a bit? Or a combo of both....?

And then there's the shrimp. I dunno how likely it will be that I can catch them all... lol

when I moved I just got all of the plants and put them in bags with whatever shrimp were in them. then I drained the tank as far as I could and netted the shrimp out, and took it to my car with the least amount of water I could have in it.

I think maybe leaving a little bit of water in it (maybe an inch) would work well, assuming you could buckle the tank into the seatbelt so it didn't accidentally tip over. You'd have to drive pretty carefully though so that the water didn't all slosh out that way at least the snails would all be covered. (Though when you go or come to a stop, the water would probably sloosh a little and uncover them for a bit, but I don't think that should cause any problems...)

The tank it pretty long, so I don't think tipping is much of an issue. Plus it'll be either on the floor of the passenger seat, or on top of the back seats (they fold down and have grippy rubbery thingies). And there's only an inch of sand in there as it is lol I'll buy more when I get back home, because my plants don't like to stay rooted when I move them... <.<

All I've ever done was lower the water to about three inches above the substrate then toss the tank into the car in a nice spot and set off. I've never actually taken anything out.

Nah. They're fine. I do cover the tank with a towel, both above and under, though, to soak up any spillage that might occur.

Just make sure the water doesn't get too hot because the hotter it gets, the less oxygen your tank has. For that long a trip, I would buy a portable air pump to keep the water going.

Others buy a nice, thick foam cooler, fill it up with the water and the portable air pump, toss the fish in, tape the top so water can't escape then set off. That's what native fishkeepers do when they catch wild fish they want to keep.
