Moving a tank to a new house

Hi all,

So in the next couple months I am going to have to move to a new place and that means taking my 75 gallon cichlid tank with me. Has anyone ever moved a tank or have any suggestions for how to go about doing this and transport everything?

Will this be a local move or a longer distance move?

Because of the situation it could be local (which would be a lot easier) but it could be up to 8 hrs away.

Oh boo eight hours away. Pre-planning is definitely a must then.

It’s going to come down to how far the move is in terms of whether you may need to get additional buckets or bins for transport. If it’s a local move you can move things reusing containers and in smaller containers because it’s a shorter trip. But 8 hrs is different logistics.
Home Depot hdx brand storage containers are pretty solid. People have done container ponds with them so should hold up well enough for temp lodgings during move.

Those are a good idea. Ill have to keep that in mind. I was thinking about getting an inverter for my car and running a heater in a container even if I had to. seems horribly inefficient, but short term.

Oh, also styrofoam ice boxes. With lids. Thought of those after, you could pretty much seal them with duct tape and run air with a check valve plus usb air pump. The insulation would help keep temps without having to worry about heat/cold swings. That’s more a suggestion if long distance travel. The hdx containers you could use as a transport or temp tank while setting the 75 back up.
Definitely more goes into getting fish from point A to B. But definitely worth it!

You may want to bring a lot of tank water with you, because the water far awa will be very different, and if you can add there current water, you can slowly change them to the new water.
