Mother-in-law won us a goldfish

On behalf of my brother I request assistance. His mother-in-law won them a goldfish at the fair. Oh how lucky !! <sarcasm> They already have a 10 gallon tank with 6 neons, 2 platys and a danio. Can the goldfish go in there too? They REALLY don't want to deal with a second tank.

unfortunately, goldfish need colder water and put out a good bit of waste so they'd need a 2nd tank. That tank is a little overstocked already actually.

Yep, goldfish need at least a 20G to go by the estimates that are going round at the moment, + each additional goldfish needs another 10G each. Unfortunately, they are very hardy so put up for very long with inadequate setups and have long, miserable lives. Sorry, I know this is crazy considering most people keep them in tiny fishbowls and most actually survive for a few years, thus spreading the myth that it's OK.

Thanks. That's pretty much what I thought and one of my concerns was the quality of life for the poor fish. Do you think a LFS would take the poor guy?

My only experience with LFS taking fish was: 'Not under 100pc buddy' and the other one was 'alright, then, but for free, we're not paying for your fry'. Worth a try. The only thing is, I am not that convinced that the LFS will actually tell the future purchaser about their space requirements, then he's better off with you who at least know?
