I am working on a 20 gallon tank addition product, and I wanted to know what is the most popular 20 gallon tank in your opinion? Is it the tall or long? Your input is greatly appreciated!

I think most people would say long, it gives the fish more swimming space

Agreed! My dad has a 20 H and I don't like it at all, so hard to stock decently. Besides, a 20 L can have cories...

Definitely go with a long, especially if you plan on making it heavy planted. You'll have a ton of trouble with high-light plants in a tall aquarium so carpeting anything will be extremely hard. Plus, 20 gal long will provide the fishies with a lot more room.
Not saying a tall is bad- in fact, I have one. However I strongly regret it simply due to the plant issue of the bottom plants not getting enough light. My fish are all very happy though so it's a matter of preference.

I concur with everyone, 20 gallon long is the way to go.

Yes - another vote for 20 gal long. The only time I see a 20 gal high being beneficial is for someone who wants to keep an angelfish (but that 1 angel in a 20 H won't leave much room for tank mates).

So a 20 gallon long is the most bought 20 gal tank among aquarists? Because I know due to the surface-depth ratio it is a much better tank to stock, but I also need to know if everyone knows that!

I must agree, I prefer the 20G Long over the High.
I always have difficulties stocking a 20G High for some reason. Seems to be more swimming space for the fish in the 20G Long.

I won't buy a 20 high. When I was looking for a 20 gallon, I didn't even bother with the high version. The only reason to get a 20 high in my opinion is if you want to have a single angelfish alone in the tank. Even then, they really should be in at least a 36 gal.

if you want to make good use of a 20G High, use it for a riparium!

I would definitely say long. To me, it looks better and is easier to work with.

I would go with a 20 gallon long aquarium also but I think you are getting the idea of what most pepole think is best on fishlore lol
but for popular I think more new fish keepers buy 20 talls because I see more talls in stores that come as kits but trust me go with a 20 gallon long a lot of kits come with junk filters anyway

I purchased a 20 gallon high for my first tank. I junked the filter it came with and got an aqueon quietflow 10. I kinda wish I would have gotten a long so the fish had more room to swim. They don't seem to mind it though.
Just get what you think you would like the most! I would recommend a long though. ;P

Good morning,
I would also suggest the 20 gallon long. The larger the foot print of the tank the better in most cases but not all. Angels, I would consider a tall tank.
