Mosaic Floating Plants

I just got 4 roots of Mosaic Floating Plants that have some leaves. When I float them on the surface, they float, but everything floats at the surface and the leaves are underwater.

Is this normal? Will they grow out?

I also broke one of the roots. Will it heal?
Thanks

The picture I saw looked like they were almost planted. It is so hard to tell from pics though. There were leaves under water and up top like the plant grew to that pattern.

I think I may have been fooling myself, I don’t think these aren’t floating plants that just hang in the water unfortunately. I think I need to have them planted below the surface six inches below. This is not possible with my aquariums

I hope not! Those are cool looking floaters!

If you mean the ludwigia species, it’ll send leaves to the surface and continue to float there.

“You can simply place it to float atop the water, where its stem and roots will grow downward over time. Depths ranging from four inches to two feet are acceptable.”

By, Ludwigia, do you mean I can plant it below the surface and it will grow up?

Is the plant ludwigia sedioides? Because if it is, I plant it in the substrate and it sends more floating leaves to the surface.

It’ll grow like a regular stem plant at first, but the stems will reach the top, lose their lower leaves, and begin to float.

Will the root remain in the substrate? Kribensis27

Yes, it’ll be rooted to the substrate with a stem going to the surface where the leaves float, like a water lily.

Looks like the plants go crazy when they are in sand substrate, but when they are in gravel, it doesn’t seem like they grow at all
