Monty has a large blood blister looking thing. Help!

BananaBean

So, I got an Oranda named Monty, and before you blast me and say that I can never have 4 comets, a black moor and an oranda living together in a 40 gal., you're right. I will never have room for my comets when they grow up, I got them unexpectedly as babies, and once they outgrow the 40 gal., they will go to a good place with a medium-sized heated outdoor pond, they're all ready to get the fish from me when needed. Anyhow, I woke up this morning and Monty had a blood blister-type thing on his mouth. His mouth is also a pinkish- red colour and swollen. I will try to upload pics from my phone in a bit, but I'm on my chromebook as of now, so I can't. He is currently in a quarantine tank with some plants and a filter. Does anyone know what this may be and how to treat it?

Hi

Without pictures it's hard to say what is wrong with the goldfish. Sounds like an injury of sorts.

Definately pick up the master test kit.

A reading of 0.5 nitrite suggests the nitrogen cycle is not quite able to maintain the waste produced from the fish despite your very good water change routine. Ammonia needs to be tested as that could be above 0 too. You can use seachem prime water conditioner to detoxify ammonia and nitrite.

Hope monty gets better.

I'm picking up the Master Test Kit tomorrow, but in the meantime, here are pics of Monty (in an old betta fish pet shop cup).

As you can see, his lips are really swollen and red. I'm not sure what to do.

I really hope someone, anyone can respond. I have no clue what this is and I am so worried that he will die because I don't know.
