Mondo grass is not an aquatic plant. Check out the link on plantgeeks for

.

These plants should be true aquatics unless stated otherwise.

is "acoris" or "acorus" a true aquatic plant? I saw some at petsmart but wasn't sure if it was or not.

Nope. I bought some in a tank for Butterfly, and she told me it was not a true aquatic. I think it's a marsh plant with only the roots in the water.

Its a ripoff, unless you're buying it to do some landscaping in your flowerbeds...in that case, it looks very nice, but it will not survive more than a few months in your aquarium. It is not a true aquatic plant, and will simply rot away and pollute your aquarium. Its scientific name is Ophiopogon japonica.

I also bought mondo grass from Petsmart. I bought it about 7 months ago. Its still in the betta tank. Its not dead tho... and has grown somewhat. I was surprised to hear that they were not aquatic plants. Its not doing that great, but I like the look next to the pagoda.

Here is a list of commonly sold non-aquatic plants - and as you can see Mondo Grass is among them

My Mondo grass started rotting about a month after buying it. It's now planted among my other terrestrial plants.
It is very hardy stuff, and can handle being submerged periodically (I think that it lives in areas near rice paddies in Japan, which means it would get flooded out on a regular basis)
