I've kept freshwater aquariums since I was 8 years old. Mostly South American cichlids, but a bit of everything over the years. I did that right up until a decade ago, when between divorce recovery, getting married again, and the birth of my youngest, it kind of fell between the cracks of life.
Anyway, we are trying to get the baby out of diapers, and her mom told her if she used the big potty, she could get a goldfish. The kid really caught onto that. Dad (that would be me), on the other hand, saw an opportunity.
We took a stroll through a local aquarium supply shop and started picking out discus goldfish and cory goldfish and tetra goldfish and angel goldfish and all kinds of goldfish, along with a new 50 gallon goldfish bowl for them to live in.
Now the baby is really into it.
So I'm putting it back together, and collecting all the bits and pieces again, which is fun. I've got nothing living, and we are getting new flooring where the tank is going to go, so I have to be patient for that, too.
Oh yeah, and she still hasn't used the big potty yet. But that is just a matter of time.
