Thanks for all the compliments guys... I love sharing and hearing how everyone else like them too... I am very proud of my babies...lol The 2 lutinos both have red eyes... The oldest one is my fav chick. She is starting to get ready to leave the nest as she perches in the opening and hangs 1/2 way out the last few days.

Thanks everyone... been a bit of a rollercoaster here the last few days since Mom divorced Dad...the babies are getting real big and she is having a hard time feeding them all ( as well as I think losing a little interest) . So I have been teaching myself to handfeed... as well as teaching the chicks to eat from a spoon. The oldest 1 is 4 weeks today and a bit reluctant to be handfed... but getting there.. They 2 youngest ones are better about eating and I am getting some into all of them as well as Mom still feeding them... I have NOT invested this much time and emotions into these babies to sit back and watch them starve now!! If I can get them threw 2 more weeks or so we will be pretty much in the clear as far as feeding goes... wish us all luck. ( ps babies are all doing fine at the moment!)

Keep up the good work. As the babies get more used to the formula being food, you should be able to plonk a spoonful of food in front of them and watch them chow down. An added bonus to handfeeding - they will be much more tame than parent raised. Are you giving them cooked veggies? The lovebirds I have been raising love cooked corn, peas, carrots, green beans, pasta, potatoes, eggs, cooked and dry cereal, brussel sprouts, and my clothes (grrr).

Thanks Gremlin... Right at the moment I am feeding them rice cereal mixed with powdered egg food. ( the dry stuff you buy) and organic baby veggies. I sometimes take cooked rice veggies and pasta and pass it thru a stainless steel sieve and mix that in too. The oldest one will not eat off the spoon well. I only get a bite or 2 into her... I put her in a dish with cooked rice and veggies and she does eat some of it... but it takes her FOREVER to get any in... Momma is still feeding some so I hope by filling up the other babies that the oldest will cry harder and get fed more by Mom than the others... baby 2 eats a little better and I can get a couple of grams into it... baby 3 eats like a pig... no problems with her...lol. and baby 4 eats ok... much more dainty that baby 3... but I get 2-3 grams into it at a feeding... I feed about every 4 hours in the day and not at all at night... babies are still in with Mom and the oldest comes out in the day and spends a lot of time in the cage ... I pop her back in at night to keep her warm.

Well I guess these will be the final pix in this thread as the babies almost look like adult birds... in another 12 weeks or so they will have their first big moult and then they will lose their baby bars ( the lutinos don't have baby bars and look like adults now) ... I have removed the nest and replaced the Daddy into the cage ... Momma was starting to get possessive of the nest and chasing the babies out ... I didn't want her to hurt them so removed it..... so one more time... the baby budgies!!

Pic 1 - Baby #1- 35 days old today.
pic 2 - Baby #2- 34 days old today.
Pic 3 - Baby #3- 33 days old today.
Pic 4 - Baby #4- 31 days old today.

You will need to post at least one more pic - gotta see them with their adult feathers!

They do grow up very fast. Sounds like you have a good breeding female - maybe some time you'll be able to let her raise another batch.

Amazing how fast they grew up. Quite shocking to think they can go from featherless hatchlings to full colors in 4 short weeks.

Thank you for sharing with us!

Thank you and your welcome everyone... Gremlin you got it... when they moult out their baby feathers and get their adult plumage I will post pix of them... I would love to let my hen raise another clutch... and if there was a decent market for them I would... but budgies are a dime a dozen andthat makes them disposible pets... I cannot in good consience breed animals that may not have a good life... that's why these ones are staying with me....lol.

It is hard to find good homes for our babies sometimes. My sister has said no more lovebird babies unless she has someone ask for one.
