Are you in northern California? I have 2 that do not get the attention they need.

Thanks every one... the youngest one had really grabbed our hearts too... he was a fighter.. we had named him Dozer... but Moms know if their babies are weak and she rejected him.
That's sad

Did that last egg ever hatch?

No the last egg was infertile... so we have 4 fat and sassy healthy babies... 2 red eyed and 2 normal eyed.

I thought of you when I stopped by the pet store last week. They had a lot of budgies. Some were really beautiful. I was so tempted, but can't do it with 3 dogs in residence. Can't wait to see these guys grow!

I LOVE going to the pet store...lol... It is almost like going to a zoo for me!!. I love looking at the conures and tiels ( if you can find any in stores anymore) and would love to have a male canary... I am not allowed dogs in my appt ... don't really want a cat.. hard to find one that will stay off of the tables and counters... and have had birds on and off since I was 13 or so. Sooo birds filled the spot I needed for a pet I could interact with.. I love my fish , but if I had to choose birds or fish... um.. I would keep my birds!! I fret over these little birdies even worse than I did my own babies when they were little...lol. I check every morning and make sure Momma feeds them. I hand feed her hemp in the morning to help her out and give her a big bowl of cooked rices , pastas grains , cous cous, and veggies... also fresh veggies and other things .. this is changed 3 times a day so she always has lots of good fresh foods to feed the babies. To anyone on here that has small - medium birds... they LOVE hemp seeds.. I just ordered a 5 lb bag of them!!

Lol gratz on the little ones, beautiful pictures, all these pictures makes me want a parrot on my shoulder and train it to talk. Got my hands full with fishes first lol

Thank you... My parrotlet talks.. but not very often... he will say birdie birdie birdie with you and will ask whatcha doing... and what did you do. His words he says most often and my favorite is when you give him a treat... he lifts his wings up at you and says in his tiny little voice... Thank You!!... and I lol every time!!

Thank you ...My parrotlet and budgies are quiet all thru the night till about 7:30 in summer and 8:30 in winter... then they holler for their breakfast!! They are SPOILED!!...lol Unless they are spooked in the night and have a night fright ... then they chirp in panic and flap around the cage... we have a night light on for them to prevent that.

Wow .. all very exciting. I love budgies, thanks for sharing such great pics and I hope all goes well for the happy family.

Thank you I love to share them!

a couple of quick videos of the chicks!

When they're all pink skinned and pink eyes will they be pure white as adults? or could they end up with some color? Hurry up and grow feathers babies, I want to see your color!!!

My lilac lynx siamese queen, mated to a flame point male, had kittens once and I couldn't wait for their color to show. Ended up with 2 lilac lynx, 2 blue and 2 tortie. What a color haul! I was so excited.

Now I'm living vicariously through your babies LOL

Well with budgies it is a little more complicated that that...lol These are actually called lutinos... which is a YELLOW albino, and as far as I can figure from all the research I have done they will be females. Albino and lutino is sex linked in budgies... if a female is NOT an "ino" then all ino babies she has will be female.. if she is one then she can have male ino babies.. if a bird is green based ( which is dominant) then her "ino" babies will all be lutino - canary yellow with red eyes. If she is blue then her ino babies can be either yellow or white I believe... not to sure on all this genetic stuff...lol . I ended up with 2 inos.. if you look close at the pix you will see the feathers coming in are yellow... and there is a 3rd ino called a creamino which is a white ino ( albino) with yellow face that may or may not bleed into the body of the bird leaving it creamy colored... not sure what the other 2 will be but @ 2 is getting a lot of black and yellow feathers.

Thanks for the education, I love genetics stuff. Oh btw .. my cat thanks you! I played the videos and my ol man jumped out of his bed and came running to the noise of the babies chirping.

Still a lot of hunt left in my old man!

Love the vid of the baby coming to your hands. That's so adorable. They're going to be such lovely companions.

I had a budgie when I was in my 20's. She was always loose and always on my shoulder, in my hair, on my glasses .. just a sweet, sweet pest and I loved her dearly. She got away one day when my Dad went out to flip burgers on the bbq and forgot she was on his shoulder

Since I've had cats I haven't had a bird. Just not taking the risk of someone getting eaten by accident and no way I'd have it cooped up all the time.

What a pleasure watching the videos!! Amazing how fast those little guys scurry along the floor. I sure miss having budgies, I had them until I was 15 or so and the interaction was just heartwarming. One little guy called Sparky would take anything he could carry in his beak off my desk, run to the edge of the desk and drop it and then squawk like crazy and bob his head up and down..... then motor across my desk to find the next thing!!! Oh, I miss him.

Just a quick vid

Well I had to separate the parents yesterday afternoon. The male is supposed to help feed the babies but my hen would not allow him any where near the nest... she never has... he has been trying to get in the nest for days now with her chasing him away every time. I did not see what started it yesterday, but am assuming he was trying to get in the nest again... and they got into a fight... a real gum rubber hoe-down... I heard a thump and looked up to see them locked together in one ball and feathers flying they flew away from each other so I didn't think much of it, till it happened again a few seconds later... this time they didn't stop till I opened the door of their cage... again I felt it was over.. just a spat... well a few minutes later it happened a third time.. this time they were not stopping. I had to reach into the cage and pick them up ( still locked in mortal combat) and pull them out of the cage... I had a bird in each hand and their feet were locked together. I could not let go of either one as they were both trying to bite the other one , but I could not get their feet unhooked.. I had to call my son to come help me .. so he worked on getting their feet unhooked while I concentrated on keeping their beaks away from each other...She managed to get a good chomp on his wing and blood started flying all over.. my hands were covered in blood as well as dripping on the floor... they were also chewing the heck out of my hands... OUCH!!! It took about 5 minutes but we finally got them apart... I put her right back into the cage but I needed to stop the bleeding on him... grabbed a face cloth and put pressure on the wound site... it took about 15 minutes to stop the bleeding altogether... so he was placed into one of my spare cages and looked VERY sorry for himself for a a while.. he will be staying out of the flight cage now till babies are out of the nest and I can take it down... whew.. gave me such an adrenaline rush I was left very shaky and exhausted mentally!!

Another cute video! Those chicks are growing so fast!

Sorry to hear the parents are not able to get along. Hope everything is alright.

For future reference, you can use cornstarch to help stop bleeding.

Some females are very overprotective and prefer to raise babies on their own. Sounds like that's what you have. When the female is like that, it is best to remove the male and let her do her job. I'm sorry your male was injured and I hope he wasn't hurt too bad. Give him a bit of extra loving and a treat and he should forget the "insult" of being removed from the flight cage. You may need to move him completely away from her so he doesn't injure himself trying to get back to flight cage. O, I've also found that a squirt bottle of water works to help break up squabbles - not sure if it would have helped you to separate them, but it's worth a try if it happens again...

Your babies are sure growing fast! Congrats! I can't hardly wait to see what their adult coloring ends up to be...

Thanks Gremlin... I have my 2 flight cages side by side normally... budgies in one and my parrotlet in the other... I moved them over just enough so now I have the male keet in a smaller 20x16 cage... he was not to happy last night but at that time I had the cage sitting on top of the flight cage and he kept trying to get down back into the other cage... now it is on the other side of a towel I keep between the cages to kept the "let from screaming at the budgies... so he can hear her but not see her and he seems much happier... funny thing is he seemed to know I was helping him... there is no way I could of held him with his wing extended for 15-20 minutes before... but yesterday he hardly squirmed... and I was holding him very loosely as I know you can suffocate a bird by holding their chest tight. So he is out of the cage now until the chicks fledge.. also looks like she is coming out of condition... hope she continues to care for the babies!!

Wow, they are sure pretty! Pics 1 & 3 look like they are going to be full lutino coloring - solid yellow. Pic 2 looks like a lutino/yellow base with the dark striping. Pic 4 is still too young to tell, but looks like it may turn out like pic 2...

Their colors are really starting to develop now. I can't believe they are almost 3 weeks old now!

Almost makes me want to see if my pair could hatch eggs. But, as they were given to me and are not hand trained/tamed, it might turn out to be a disaster. All our tamed budgies have passed on.
