I just found this in my tank. I am reasonably sure it's molt, the break is behind the head like where I understand it to be when shrimp molt but I wanted to get a pic and see what people with more than a few days experience thought of it.

On one hand you want to leave molted shells in the tank so they can eat it for calcium, but on the other hand, if you aren't sure, you could always pick it up and see if there's any shrimp meat in there (which would indicate death, along with the pinkish color shrimp meat turns like Demeter said). If it's not a dead body, just toss it back in the tank.
