Molly fry sitting above water line, normal? Question

One of my 10G fry tanks currently has 7 Balloon mollies (16.05.14) and 9 Guppies (23.05.14), earlier on today I put a big clump of Eleocharis sp. Mini in to float before I plant it later on tonight. Since then (around 3 hours ago) every time I look in the tank, all 7 Molly fry are sitting on the Eleocharis, above the water line. If I touch the Eleocharis, they swim away but as soon as I remove my finger, they climb back on to it. Is this normal?

I've not seen this in a tank, but I have seen wild fish fry do this in a pond. I think this is how they are trying to keep from being eaten by the parent mollies.

That makes sense I suppose, thanks! There is only fry in there so it must be natural instinct, quite cool really.xx
