molly breeding preferences

I recently purchased some black and one dalmatian molly females for my two silver males in hopes of calming them down. My question is, can these all breed, seeing how they are different types of mollies? The silver males seem to be interested in the black mollies, but show no interest in the dalmatian. She has tried to get their attention, but they just act as if she is of another species. Is this common? And what will come of a cross between a silver and a black molly? A dalmatian? Or some silver, some black? Any help/answers would be much appreciated, as I'm more than a bit confused.

 

Sometimes, for whatever reason, males will ignore a particular female at first and then start to show interest later.. I wouldn't worry too much unless they act hostile toward her, fin-nipping plus chasing her a lot.. as for the combinations of fry from your males mating with the females you have, you've pretty much guessed all the possibilities.. now that you've added females to the tank though, the males won't be particularly chummy with each other, as they'll both be pushing for alpha-male status with the girls, so to be safe, I'd monitor their behavior toward each other.

 

I bred two platinum mollies with a black male and got all platinum Mollie babies - it's the luck of the draw.

 

your mollies will interbreed. I had a mixed molly that was really pretty, but I don't know WHAT it was. it was peach w/ blk. spots in the back half.it had fins like a blk. molly( round) mollies (I think) will breed with any mollies there are. I have heard of dallies( dalmation lyretails), blk., and balloon molies all breeding together!!! I wonder what the fry looked like?! LOL

 

In my experience, male mollies will breed with anything that moves, even non-mollies when times are bad. Am sure they can interbreed within different races/colours of mollies. Perhaps he's got strong personal tastes? Or are some of your females sexually immature? Lucky female, though. At least there's one a male molly leaves alone. Wish my females were so lucky! They're all sorts and he seems to like them all... A lot!
