Mollies With Shrimp Wafers

So these days, my mollies stay at the bottom (they are still active, no worries), so when they get to the top to eat flakes, pellets, etc., the food is all gone (because they're too late) sometimes they don't even notice that there's food up at the top. So, my mollies just eat the shrimp wafers (for the cories) at the bottom. There is no problems with the mollies and cories eating together (they get their fair share), but just wondering would shrimp wafers give enough nutrients for mollies (P. sphenops).

HI I don't think there's anything wrong with the mollies eating those shrimp wafers, as long as the corys are getting some too!

 

Poecilia sphenops´s diet consists of 90% algae in the wild. The rest is made of tiny crustaceans and other benthic animals. If you ask me for a citation or link, I can't give it to you right now because I forgot where I read that, but I can assure you I'm not inventing anything. Just look at their mouths, they are made to rasp algae. This means that if we go the natural route their ideal diet would be mainly vegetable matter supplemented with meaty foods as shrimp pellets.
With Mollys being so adaptable I am 110% sure they would be able to live off shrimp pellets and be healthy but would they be best for them? Based on their natural diet, no.

 

My mollies used to eat algae wafers. But since they got a taste of shrimp wafers, they went for the shrimp wafers instead. They ignore the algae wafers. I can feed some cucumbers though.

 

I would not worry much about it tbh. Some vegetable matter will help but you probably won't note any difference between a "natural" diet and a shrimp pellet diet.
